Job Summary:

As a Control Systems Senior Engineer in the IPSD (Industrial Power Systems Division) Large Engine Mechatronics team, you will be accountable for design, development, calibration and integration of control strategies supporting IPSD Large Engines applications.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with a team of engineers and be accountable for design, development, and integration of control strategies as part of Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) Mechatronics team.

  • Key focus for this position will be developing controls and diagnostics for diesel and alternative fuel engines as well as extending to hybrid powertrains.

  • Accountability spans the full development cycle from concept to productionizing the embedded software control strategies for Engine Control Module (ECM) implementations.

  • Control/simulation requirements development, modelling of control algorithms for system simulation and control software generation, modelling of engine and engine sub-system physical dynamics, and system simulation and performance analysis (Simulation In the Loop, Hardware In the Loop).

  • Work with Engine system integration and Engine development teams to test, calibrate and validate control strategies.

  • Lead New Technology Introduction (NTI) / New Product Introduction (NPI) / Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) issue resolutions.

  • Develop/follow control system architecture standards – traditional classical and advanced control strategies including MIMO.

  • Author and maintain Failure Mode Effective Analysis (FMEA), Design Verification Plan (DVP), test procedures/plans

What You Will Have:

  • Bachelors, Master's or PhD Degree in an Engineering related discipline with a focus in Control systems or Mechatronics.

  • Control theory knowledge (Classical, Nonlinear, and other advanced concepts such as Neural networks, Machine learning etc.) & implementation in programming

  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink

  • Demonstrates experience with software architecture when embedded systems become complex in scale.

    • Knowledge of Hardware-In-Loop testing

    • Simulink, Python and/or other programming experience

  • Experience with design and calibration of closed loop system controls and/or experience with engines and powertrains

  • Technical Leadership Skillset

    • Proven self-starter with strong technical leadership skills

    • Analytical Thinking - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Communicating Complex Concepts - Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers

    • Problem Solving - Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems

    • Conceptual Thinking: Knowledge of thinking and reasoning at a conceptual level; ability to identify the critical ideas and interdependencies among system elements that impact performance.
