Job Summary:
Sample Bank is recruiting for a Research Associate to assist in small molecule compound management. Sample Bank is a group within Discovery Pharmacology that is responsible for the intake of registered compounds from our chemists, preparing them for testing in bioassays, and storing and retrieving the compounds. Sample bank interfaces with multiple groups across Arcus Research that are involved in the synthesis and testing of our small molecule compounds. We occasionally receive compounds from external sources that need to be processed and ship compounds to contract research organizations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operating instruments for compound processing to support lead discovery and optimization efforts.
- From powder handling, compound solubilization to assay-ready plate generation
- Trouble-shooting the compound processing procedures
- Working with medicinal chemistry to perform compound QC
- Working with automation group to perform QC for instruments related to compound management
- Working with lead discovery and optimization group to designing compound workflow/schema and validating it with biochemical and/or cellular assays
- Dissolution of pre-weighed small molecule compounds into solvents (e.g., DMSO)
- Fulfilling requests from scientists for compound testing, including pipetting liquid compound solutions from vials for bioassays (manual and/or automated)
- Storing and retrieving compounds
- Handling routine laboratory work and labware/consumable management.
Qualifications (including knowledge & skills):
Minimum education and experience level
- Bachelor's degree with basic laboratory skills including pipetting and attention to detail
Preferred qualifications
- Proven basic laboratory skills, attention to detail, and appetite for new skills and automation/technologies
- Familiarity with liquid handling systems and laboratory automation would be a plus
- Experience with in vitro assays is a plus
