Job Purpose:

Check Defense is a fast-growing federal contractor seeking a qualified and experienced professional Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) Coordinator. The LRAM Coordinator provides support services for the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program Management, Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). ITAM support enables management and Maintenance of training land by integrating mission requirements with environmental requirements and sound land management practices. The ideal candidate shall manage projects and administer all LRAM activities necessary to maintain, repair, and reconfiguration Army land resources at JBLM.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the repair, maintenance, and reconstruction of the training area lands at JBLM, WA.
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed equipment and crew logs, project planning, timelines, budgeting, execution, and QA/QC.
  • Assist ITAM coordinator with planning and executing contract work for pest vegetation management and maneuver trail maintenance, as well as provide weekly QA/QC reports and updates.
  • Develop land repair and trail maintenance documents, and the point of contact for scheduling access to project areas.
  • Function as a point of contact (POC) for repair, maintenance, propagation, and reconfiguration activities on Army land resources at JBLM.
  • Plan LRAM crew vegetation clearing activities and maneuver trail maintenance using GIS with historical data from previous management efforts, RTLA monitoring data, and priorities required by the government.
  • Evaluate LRAM efforts to refine the program for future activities.
  • Use the best available scientific information along with information on training and other land uses to recommend land management recommendations.
  • Contribute to and coordinate with Public Works/Environmental Development, regional conservation groups, and outside agencies for planning of LRAM projects.
  • Submit an annual report summarizing all deliverables to include maps of all their field work.
  • Submit Monthly Status Report for RTLA crew, LRAM Coordinator, LRAM crew, and PPM.
  • Attend the Natural Resource Scheduling meeting once a month to plan and reserve access to project areas six months ahead on the calendar.
  • Manage safety program ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and OSHA requirements.
  • Use GIS software to develop maps for the training and natural resource communities, create maps to analyze lands to set project priorities.
  • Coordinate with Range Control GIS and PW/GIS personnel to maintain accurate data within the JBLM dataset.
  • Utilize a Geographic Positioning System (GPS) device for navigation.
  • Maintain updated reports/photographs/GIS data on all upcoming, on-going, and completed projects.
  • Maintain government furnished equipment to always ensure maximum operational rate.
  • Coordinate acquisition of materials, equipment, equipment repairs, and supplies for equipment operators and nursery specialist.
  • Maintain current herbicide applicator licensing requirements by the State of Washington.

Required Qualifications:

  • United States citizen.
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Natural Resources Management, or related field
  • 2 years’ experience repairing damaged training lands and maneuver trails; knowledge of best management practices for South Puget Sound prairie repair.
  • 2 years’ experience propagating native south Puget Sound prairie plants in a greenhouse environment.
  • 2 years’ professional experience working with military personnel.
  • 2 years’ of collaborating with government agencies and nonprofit groups on natural resources issues in a professional environment.
  • Experience scheduling training areas using RFMSS and SharePoint software.
  • Experience creating and editing maps using ArcGIS Pro software.
  • Trimble/ArcPad or iPad/Field Maps experience
  • Valid US issued Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain Herbicide Applicator licensing requirements by the State of Washington

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and the associated safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
  • Herbicide applicator licensing and experience preferred in Washington State and all required OSHA Certifications.
  • Capability to solve repair problems using technical manuals and diagrams.

Working condition:

  • Indoors in office environment
  • Outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Noise between 140db to 165db.
  • Work in rough and remote terrain; in weather extremes such as thunderstorms, high heat, and humidity, severe cold and wind.
  • Work in the proximity of unexploded ordinance.
  • Work in the proximity of military training exercises.
  • Exposure to and application of hazardous chemicals and pesticides.
  • Exposure to stinging and biting insects, ticks, spiders, venomous snakes, poisonous plants, spines, and thorns.

  • Vision: required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
