Consumer Loan Underwriter I

Summary: Responsible for processing, Underwriting and/or Funding of Consumer Loan applications originated via the Internet; Telephone; Third party referral programs and/or Branch Network as applicable; within defined timeframes with credit decisions that comply with MVCU Consumer Lending policies, guidelines and procedures as applicable. Demonstrates sound un underwriting skills & judgement that support MVCU credit policies and risk tolerance.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyzes and decisions Consumer Loan applications within prescribed lending limits and communicates credit decisions to all appropriate parties.

2. Demonstrates complete knowledge of loan work flow from origination point through funding with emphasis on the underwriting aspect.

3. Recommends the approval or denial of loans exceeding prescribed limits.

4. Utilizes the authority to counter-offer loan applications that may be outside of credit policy and risk tolerance.

5. Uses the existing lending application systems to process consumer applications. Documents all terms, conditions and reasons for a given actions taken on individual application records.

6. Ensures the quality, accuracy and compliance of all applications received and effectively communicates any discrepancies to management while maintaining a solid grasp of industry standards and practices and Federal and State Regulatory.

7. Acts as an informational resource to members and staff regarding application processing, compliance and product knowledge.

8. Completes Adverse Action forms for denials and incomplete applications in compliance with ECOA.

9. Lives MVCU’s passion and quality initiative through teamwork and quality service to internal and external customers and members, process improvement and elimination of waste.

10. Performs additional duties as requested.

Qualifications:

1. Associates degree or equivalent required.
2. Minimum of three years prior Consumer Loan underwriting.
3. Experience with personal computers in a windows environment, including the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
4. Knowledge of various office equipment including ten-key calculator, typewriter, copier and fax machine. Detail orientated with strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced manner. Initiative and sound judgment needed to effectively perform these responsibilities.
