Title: Consumer Lending Officer

Department: Lending

Reports to: EVP/ Chief. Banking Officer

Status: Exempt

  1. Summary:

Under general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures, originates consumer loans by interviewing applicants, ordering credit reports, analyzing data, approving or denying credit requests, notifying applicants of loan decision, notifying customers of loan status, and cashing approved loans. Regularly communicates via telephone with automobile and other retail consumer dealers in originating retail credit applications. Responds to questions concerning all aspects of consumer loans from various sources, such as customers, branch managers, assistant branch managers, dealers, and association staff people. Sets up files, inputs consumer loan data, and prepares reports. May assist with servicing consumer loans. Is responsible for producing a high volume of good quality consumer loans to achieve a high profit margin on short-term loans.

  1. Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Interviews consumer loan applicants, gathering the required information for a credit application, explaining loan options, rates, terms, and collateral requirements, and arranging notification and cashing dates. Cross-sells services in a professional manner.

  1. Transcribes credit application information telephoned to the Bank by retail dealers and makes sure that dealers supply the required information.

  1. Underwrites loan applications originated in person and by other modes of communication including; ordering credit reports, analyzing the information provided, verifying information with creditors, the applicant, and the applicant’s employer. Requests additional information from the applicant as required.

  1. Makes the decision to grant or decline the credit request and communicates it to the applicant. Has limited loan approval authority for unsecured and secured loans.

  1. Responds to telephone inquiries from many sources, such as loan customers, branch managers and dealers, explaining loan procedures, providing technical assistance, answering questions concerning loan rates, terms and related matters; and processing consumer loans.

  1. Enters data concerning loans cashed into the computer by use of a CRT to generate an on-line loan account.

  1. May assist in servicing consumer loans by processing such items as payoffs, refinances, problem loan workout arrangements, and changes of address.

  1. Continually engages in outside solicitation of retail automobile and home improvement loan dealers and contractors by making sales calls on such people and keeping them informed of current consumer loan rates, terms, and procedures.

  1. Performs related duties as required.

  1. Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. A high level of interpersonal skills to conduct productive interview sessions with loan applicants and solicit and maintain dealer accounts.

  1. A thorough understanding of the requirements and features of the loan program offered by the Bank to provide related information to applicants.

  1. Comply with all federal and state regulations and rules impacting this position, meet all risk and compliance obligations, including the completion of required training.

  1. The analytical ability to conduct an analysis of an applicant’s credit status and recommend alternatives where the analysis reveals and insufficient financial posture.

  1. Minimum Requirements:

  1. Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  1. A level of professional knowledge normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program in business administration, finance, or related area is preferred.

  1. Two to five years of progressively greater responsibility and experience in Consumer Lending.
