Vontobel Asset Management, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Consultant Relations Executive to assist in driving our multi-boutique growth strategy in the US.
The Consultant Relationship Manager will be capable of building strong relationships by understanding the consultant's investment needs, and identify selling opportunities. Success in the role will require the candidate to acquire a deep understanding of Vontobel's equity, fixed income and multi-asset (MAS) capabilities, investment philosophy and approach, and effectively articulate this. The candidate will lead engagement with global and national investment consultants to secure ratings and/or recommendations, and will collaborate with the institutional sales team to raise awareness with field consultants and generate opportunities. In addition to external responsibilities, a candidate must work seamlessly with internal departments such as portfolio management, client services, marketing and analytics to ensure exceptional client service.
Your Opportunity

  • Lead engagement with several large investment consultants by leveraging existing relationships, acquiring ratings, working with oCIO teams and building strategic relationships.
  • Responsible to help drive the sales strategy and expand Vontobel's market share with institutional relationships by being an intellectual contributor, solution provider and trusted advisor to consultants and delivering growth across our product suite of high conviction actively managed Equity, Fixed Income and MAS capabilities.
  • Develop a business plan for the relevant firms, collaborating with the Head of Consultant Relations (based in London), to identify and engage with key decision makers. Responsible for bringing the global capabilities and appropriate resources of the firm to bear to execute that strategy.
  • Coordinate with Senior Institutional Sales & Service, Marketing, Client Portfolio Managers, and Investment team members to fully develop all opportunities in the region and help implement best practices at the firm. This will include not only North America, but also the relevant institutional relationship management teams located overseas.
  • Proactively respond to consultant requests including RFPs, quarterly requests and ad hoc outreach while keeping distribution colleagues well informed of all communications.
  • Provide constructive feedback on strategies, market / industry trends and best practices to management, sales and investment management teams.
  • Develop and executive a plan to engage with field consultants to raise awareness of our brand and investment capabilities, working hand and hand with the various regional relationship managers globally.
  • Lead complex technical investment discussions, including strategy update meetings, with a sophisticated audience.
  • Engage internally across the organization, in particular with our globally located colleagues, to partner with the product, marketing and investment resources of the firm to address the ever-changing needs of our clients.
  • Build positive relationships across the broader global sales organization, investment communications, operations, legal, compliance and other internal teams critical to the end-to-end client lifecycle.

Requirements
  • 7-10 years of investment sales experience required, working at an institutional asset manager or consulting firm in sales and Consultant Relations
  • The ability to creatively leverage intellectual capital and thought leadership to open doors and create commercial partnerships with research consultants
  • Ability to position our investment expertise across relevant market segments to include: defined contribution, defined benefit, corporate, public pensions, endowment & foundations, as well as oCIOs
  • A strong sense of professional and personal integrity, as well as high ethical standards
  • A proven track record demonstrating relationship engagement and success in high level sales production
  • Commitment to the philosophy and process underlying Vontobel's investment approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly with regards to conveying technical investment approaches and key selling points in a clear and compelling manner
  • Demonstration of initiative, accountability, and a focus on delivering consistent quality work, coupled with outstanding time management, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to build relationships and interact effectively with business partners. Comfortable traveling on a regular basis
  • A strong academic background is required; MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred. Series 7 and 63 licenses required
  • Individual can be located remotely, however a regular presence in NYC will be encouraged.
