DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Landscape Construction Foreman or Foreman to whom assigned, the Construction Workman is responsible for:
- Construction of retaining walls, concrete walkways, installing and repairing playgrounds, working on zoo exhibits and repairing drainage ways.
- Maintenance, repair and snow removal of roadways and parking lots.
- Working with other parks division maintenance crews on an as needed basis.
- Maintains the cleanliness and safety of work area and assigned vehicle.
- Assisting with setup and tear-down of special events.
- Moving and setting up the portable stage.
- Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
- Apprentice rate: $20.81. Base rate after apprentice period: $26.01
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must maintain a valid Illinois State driver's license and obtain a class A CDL license.
- Must daily wear a clean Park District designated uniform while on the job.
- Must become a member of the Laborer’s Local 165 Union
Education: High School diploma or GED required.
Experience: Experience in the construction field is desirable.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Basic knowledge of construction work.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate construction equipment, for example: skid steer, backhoe.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Aptitude for on the job training.
- Ability to work harmoniously with other park district employees.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customer.
