Job description

Position Type: Non- Union, Construction Trades Assistant
Building: Three Rivers High School, CTE Program
Reports to: Building Principal
Purpose:
To assist the Construction Trades Instructor in teaching and overseeing high school students to safely perform tasks and complete projects related to Construction Trades projects. To provide supportive guidance and encourage the development of academic, life management, and personal growth skills.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma and the ability to perform all required tasks associated with manual labor to include heavy lifting, stooping, bending, and climbing ladders. Preferred candidates will have a current State of Michigan Builder's/Contractor's License, and knowledge of using Construction Trades equipment, materials, and tools, as well as the common hazards and necessary safety precautions required. House construction experience, OSHA or MIOSHA certification, experience or the proven ability to work with high school students, and the ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, and blueprints are highly preferred, although not required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in teaching Construction Trades students construction skills.
  2. Set standards and model appropriate behavior and methods of addressing problems at the construction site.
  3. Ensure worksite safety, modeling and reinforcing proper constructions techniques and all trained safety procedures including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  4. Assist in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction.
  5. Assist in recordkeeping, including grading and attendance.
  6. Maintain and inventory of all tools and equipment used on the job daily.
  7. Participate as part of the site team in program and construction planning, keeping management informed of the progress, problems and needs of the students and building projects.
  8. Support the academic and leadership goals of the program by incorporating both into building site activities whenever possible. These are all needed... Maybe not all the time, but it will be nice that the applicant knows some of the daily tasks.
  9. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job duty
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Temporary Assignment/Remainder of the 23-24 Academic Calendar. EduStaff Contracted. Monday-Friday. This position generally follows the TRCS Academic Calendar. This position has non-working days during winter, spring and summer breaks as well as designated holidays. Salary, terms and other conditions of employment established by the Board of Education.
