Schickedanz is seeking candidates for the role of Construction Superintendent working out of our Fort Madison, Iowa location. The ideal candidate will have 5 years or more of leadership/supervisory experience in the post frame construction or general carpentry industry. We offer year-round work with plenty of room for advancement.

Role Definition:

The Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing Schickedanz team members and subcontractor personnel on construction projects to ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and with a quality craft that conforms to project plans and specifications. Responsibilities include but not limited to overseeing the work being performed on site, safety planning, schedule management, weekly activity planning, maintaining a clean and orderly jobsite, and quality management. The Superintendent may also assist the Project Manager, and other Operations personnel. This role profile is subject to change.

Safety:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures by managing and using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Understand, operate, and manage all safety rules, the operating and maintenance manuals, and following all procedure handbooks.

  • Take proper safety precautions, including inspecting and updating equipment, tools, safety kits, fire extinguishers, etc.

  • Ensure crew members, including new hires, are fully trained and follow all safety and construction procedures.

  • Lead by example

Performance:

  • Assist with supervision, and labor while completing all construction projects.

  • Inspect blueprints and materials lists to ensure all aspects of the project are understood and can be executed.

  • Ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and with a quality craft that conforms to project plans and specifications.

  • Plan, schedule, and ensure delivery of materials, tools, and equipment with a three-week look ahead.

  • Advise Project Manager immediately if the plan's deviation occurs.

  • Provide daily feedback and reporting on Jobsite activities.

  • Effectively forecast and manage time to meet all specified deadlines.

  • Identify and suggest new approaches or best-known methods to foster our continuous improvement.

Leadership:

  • Maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders; fellow employees, subcontractors, ownership, etc.

  • Assess crew member skillset and assign employees to appropriate projects based on the job priority according to each project's schedule.

  • Assist in the training, and ongoing support of job site interns or new hires.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass MVR.

  • Trade school, vocational school, or college education in the related field, preferred.

  • 5+ years of construction experience, industrial experience preferred.

  • 3-5 years of experience supervising job site crews of 3 or more team members.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to, as needed, ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.

  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds regularly/occasionally, as needed.

  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.

  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.

  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.

  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments and on concrete floors.
