Job Summary

The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility which hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair, and operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing as well as a full-service food service operation. The Construction Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of the oversight and management of Event Center capital improvement projects.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare bids for architectural services and to build various projects.
• Be familiar with governmental requirements for bidding contracts for contractors in the Bay Area.
• Determine the project deliverables and specifications, including the project scope, necessary project resources, and estimated labor needed by collaborating with clients, engineers, and architects.
• Calculate the cost estimate of all project tasks and accurately manage the project budget.
• Plan and schedule the entire Construction Project, including construction operations and timelines, to make sure project deadlines are met.
• Require and document the appropriate licenses and permits from the corresponding authorities and ensure construction is up to code.
• Work with general contractors, critical subcontractors, and external vendors to negotiate profitable contracts.
• Manage general contractors and construction workers and give guidance as needed to ensure high-quality project performance.
• Communicate the status of the projects to key stakeholders by providing regular progress reports.
• Prevent injuries, slowdowns, and project risks by demanding complete adherence to health and safety standards on construction sites and reporting safety regulation issues promptly.
• Maintain physical presence onsite - operating out of an onsite office.
• Provide management with regular written reports and updates on project statutes as required by the CEO.
• Must be able to manage multiple contracts simultaneously.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related fields.
• Minimum five years of work experience in construction management.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a bonus.
• In-depth knowledge of the construction industry and the entire building process, including building codes, blueprints, permits, construction equipment, material resources, construction processes, and project management principles.
• Experience using construction or project management software preferred.
• Strong communication skills, leadership skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and time-management skills.

Must be able to speak, hear and see. Vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
