Job description

Construction Engineer
Location: SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA (based in Sioux Falls, SD and covering SD, NE and partial territory for KS, IA, MN)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Macro/CRAN/SMR-MOD Construction Manager
Construction Management

  • Manage and update tasks for projects assigned to Construction Manager (CM) in site tracking system of record (FUZE).
  • Provide daily and weekly updates on site deployment progress (as required) through live tracking in FUZE and Smartsheet.
  • Proactively manage communication and reporting with General Contractors (GCs) during construction activities.
  • Attend weekly conference calls with Vertex and Client (as required)

Pre-Construction Site Walk
  • Mobilize to site and attend preliminary site walks with Real Estate/Site Acquisition to determine site design.
  • Conduct site walks with utility and/or awarded fiber vendor.
  • Provide and route information to A&E/SAC/client.
  • Upload any required documents into repository (Utility Agreed Meet Me Point MMP Photos, signed Drawings or signed location Sketch).

Pre-Construction Drawings Review
  • Assist in tracking and reporting on the timely delivery of Zoning and Construction drawing.
  • Review, redline or approve drawings.
  • Verification that drawings meet current standards.
  • Obtain approval on drawings and provide to A&E/RE team.
  • Update reporting tools as needed.

Pre-Construction SOW and Bid Walk
  • Create Scope of Work (SOW) based on approved CD's and LL/Property specific info to detail all items specific to project.
  • SOW to be approved by client prior to bid walk.
  • Assemble bid package.
  • Schedule and conduct Bid walk with designated General Contractors.
  • Based on questions and discussions at bid walk update SOW to clarify scope.
    • Communicate clarification to client to update bids.
  • Pre-con with landlord and/or their representative with GC - provide discussion points from pre-con walk to client in chosen tool.

Construction In-Progress
  • Arrange and manage any landlord required meetings and details.
  • Coordinate General Construction activities to meet timelines.
  • Ensure safety processes are followed and ensure project location is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Communicate any project changes or delays to Client Construction Engineer.
  • Multiple site walks during the construction phase of a project to monitor GC progress and ensure site compliance. Report to CE any issues that are observed.
  • Walks to include, but not limited to
    • During foundation installations for new tower sites.
    • Progress Photos of each site walk labeled, dated and uploaded to tools.
  • Manage out of scope items real time during project and escalate to Vertex and client as needed.

Construction Complete Punch Walk
  • Upon major construction completion obtain hand over package from General Contractor.
  • CM to certify the project is complete and built per design.
  • Schedule and complete punch walk with GC and LL to verify site is ready for handoff before calling complete.
  • Details of hand over package to be project specific and defined by client at start of project.
  • Obtain redlined CDs and other required documents.
  • Update and upload docs into Vertex and client tools.
  • Ensure all work follows client standards.
  • Provide a punch list report with deviation photos to the vendor and client.
    • Track punch items to completion.

Close Out Package Review and Site Handoff
  • Download close out documents from system of record.
  • Review close out documents for Construction and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Create corrective action deliverable checklist.
  • Send checklist to GC and follow up on all outstanding deliverables (10 Day Turnover).
  • Review and validate accuracy of deliverables submitted by GC on checklist.
  • Notify GC if additional corrective actions are required (7 Day Turnover).
  • Notify GC the Close Out Package (COP) deliverables are approved for final upload into site tracking system.
  • Confirm GC has uploaded corrective deliverables into site tracking system.
  • Drive project to 100% completion.
  • Schedule final walk with GC and client representative for handoff.

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
  • 3-5 years overall experience in telecommunications implementation, preferably the wireless sector including new cell site construction experience.
  • Proven ability to manage wireless industry vendors for multiple projects at various stages.
  • Ability to read and understand a Statement of Work, site status reports/forecasts, contracts, electrical/grounding site plans and drawings.
  • Computer skills to include MS Office Suite (Excel, Word & Outlook), Smartsheet, FUZE, and Microsoft Teams meetings.
  • Experience leading daily or weekly meetings, including documenting action items and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to maintain data in multiple systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral/written communications skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and be adaptable to changing environments.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle, possess a valid driver's license, maintain auto insurance and be insurable under company insurance policy.
  • Ability to map out efficient driving routes and using navigation applications to reach job site locations on time.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to drive a car for extended periods of time, up to 10 hours per day.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently inspect the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
Must be comfortable driving in various weather and road conditions, during the day or night.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This full-time position is exempt. Days and hours of work may fluctuate based on needs of the client and the project. The minimum work requirement is 40 hours each week, and project may require longer hours and "maintenance window" work, which is considered night shift.
Travel: Up to 100% by car to various site locations through designated market areas
Relocation/Housing is not provided
Expense reimbursement will be provided according to Vertex's policy
Compensation:
Base: $85,000 - $105,000 DOE
Health Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD/STD, Life-AD&D
Retirement: 401(k), discretionary Pension and Profit Sharing
PTO: 15 Days (prorated based on start date)
Paid Holidays: 8
