HDR is seeking a Construction Engineer to join our Transportation Construction Services Group to provide support to our Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) program in El Paso, Texas.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Construction Engineer 2, we'll count on you to:
- Reporting directly to the assigned HDR Project Manager, the Construction Engineer provides support to the activities of assigned office staff and construction field inspection staff, material inspectors, and testers along with management of various sub-consultants providing similar services
- Responsibility to support construction management for the successful delivery of a multimillion-dollar construction projects
- Coordination with the contractor(s) on behalf of the client/owner, as part of a CEI team
- Coordinating with Design Engineers to resolve technical/engineering issues
- Providing Construction Management Engineering support to a project team consisting of administrative staff, document control staff, project controllers, inspectors, and record keepers responsible for contract administration, construction inspection, and materials testing
- Provide Construction Management Engineering support managing day-to-day activities such as progress reporting, conducting and attending project meetings, review of construction Submittals and RFIs, development and review of contractor pay estimates, quality assurance of material testing and inspection, review of contractor's project schedules, review of price proposals, and development of change orders.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field
- PE license in state of Texas (or if registered in another state, the ability to obtain registration from the State of Texas within six months of hire)
- 5 years of CEI experience on transportation construction projects serving as a project engineer or similar role, • 2+ years of experience must include major road and/or bridge construction projects
- Valid Driver's License
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with TxDOT construction projects
- Experience in with Quality Control or Quality Assurance practices in the delivery of CEI construction projects
- Experience with using SiteManager
- Microsoft Office
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Civil Engineering or related discipline (may be substituted for one year of engineering experience)
- TXDOT Precertification in Construction Management, Materials Inspection and Testing
- TXDOT ENV Certifications required of CEI staff on TXDOT construction projects
Physical requirements
- Must be able inspect any work on site without any physical assistance (such as ladders, manlifts, underground structures, traverse uneven and irregular surfaces) except that which would normally be provided by the contractor's personnel.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
- Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
- Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and
- measure distances on the ground and for vertical structures.
- Be able to operate a vehicle day or night
- Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts
- Some travel required
