Are you a Computer Science educator, researcher, or technology professional? Do you have experience helping students or working professionals explore personal and professional goals in Computer Science or the technology sector? Are you currently searching for meaningful part-time, remote work where you can create a positive impact for dozens of High School students? We are searching for a Program Facilitator who will play a leading role in the High School student experience in our Computer Science Immersion Program over 27 Saturday afternoons scheduled from March 2024 to early December 2024.

Position Title:Program FacilitatorWork Commitment: 245 to 285 hours

Category: Part-Time / Fully Remote

Impact Internships is a Southern California based non-profit that has created science immersion opportunities for High School students. Our Computer Science Immersion Program (C-SIP) has introduced High School students to their future opportunities in the Computer Science field as it relates to education, a career, and making a positive impact on our changing world. Students spend 9 Saturday afternoons on Zoom engaging in lectures from Computer Science professionals, taking part in workshops and completing a team project related to application design in technology. To promote accessibility, C-SIP is free for low-income High School students, with other students paying a program fee lower than comparable programs. The Computer ScienceProgram Facilitator will place a key role in all aspects of the C-SIP student experience over 27 Saturday afternoons over the course of the 3 separate seasons of the program that will take place over the 2024 calendar year. Each season will last for 9 Saturday afternoons on Zoom, with two sessions running each season. Each season of the program will feature a different cohort of students but utilize the same program curriculum.

Candidate Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is interested in helping a young person navigate career and life choices related to the technology and Computer Science field. The ideal team member is committed to being adaptive while also facilitating the established C-SIP curriculum.

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher is required for this position.
  • To apply, the candidate must possess one or more of the following: a college degree related to Computer Science or technology; a significant amount of college coursework related to Computer Science or technology; significant career related experience in a Computer Science or technology related field
  • Current or retired Computer Science/ technology subject educators (teachers, graduate students, professors, counselors, staff) are encouraged to apply. Technology professionals with experience in mentorship, training, and education are encouraged to apply. Computer science researchers also encourage to apply.
  • This Program Facilitator is required to facilitate over 27 Saturday afternoons / evenings in three seasons from March 2024 to December 2024. These dates are Spring 2024 (3/9/24 to 5/4/24), Summer 2024 (6/8/24 to 8/3/24) and Fall 2024 (10/12/24 to 12/7/24). Each of the 3 seasons is a separate 9 Saturday program with a new cohort of students, but will utilize the same C-SIP program curriculum.
  • On the 27 Saturday program dates, the Program Facilitator will need to be present from 12pm PST to 6pm PST to facilitate both Session A (12pm to 3pm PST) and Session B (3pm to 6pm PST). Both sessions repeat the same curriculum but with a different group of students. Other personal and professional work commitments need to be balanced with the position commitments.
  • The facilitator will need to have limited availability throughout the week to complete administrative tasks, staff meetings, and development related to the program that take place outside of the Saturday afternoon sessions. There is scheduling flexibility for these tasks, but the facilitator still needs a significant amount of weekly schedule availability for program related tasks outside of Saturday sessions.
  • The facilitator needs to possess the ability to mentor and train High School students in Computer Science and technology subjects as it relates to their future education and career opportunities. This includes being able to design program workshops, a team project, and facilitating Computer Science related speakers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required for this position.

Position Responsibilities – March 2024 to December 2024

  • A multi-hour Zoom training session will take place by early March before March 9th at a time that works for the Program Facilitator.
  • On each Saturday afternoon of the program the facilitator will help introduce Computer Science related speakers, run the daily C-SIP schedule and create a fulfilling environment for students.
  • The Program Facilitator will design and facilitate a basic student technology team project that will help students explore user experience and application design. The past group project featured use of Figma, where student groups designed mock-ups of potential user applications. The facilitator can utilize the current group project or alternatively design their own project. The 2023-2024 facilitator can elect to create a new project that explores alternative Computer Science topics.
  • The facilitator will deliver workshops regarding various subjects related to Computer Science and technology. Additional leadership workshops related to life skills, communications, and general career success will also be delivered.
  • The facilitator will also take part in several staff meetings. The facilitator will help with administrative tasks related to the program, such as speaker scheduling. There will be communication tasks with students. Other relevant tasks related to the program may be assigned as required. There is flexibility in scheduling meetings outside of Saturday sessions of the program.
  • Approximately 180 hours of this position will take place during the C-SIP Saturday afternoon program sessions and student preliminary meetings, with around 60 hour assigned each season. Throughout this yearlong position, approximately 75 – 95 additional hours will be assigned to complete staff meetings, program development work, and C-SIP related administrative tasks.
