Job description

Janssen Pharmaceutical, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Scientist, Translational Science (TS), Immunology Translational Science and Medicine (TSM). The position will be located in Spring House (PA), La Jolla (CA), Cambridge (MA) or performed remotely.
At the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, what matters most is helping people live full and healthy lives. We focus on treating, curing and preventing some of the most devastating and complex diseases of our time. And we pursue the most promising science, wherever it might be found.
We are Janssen. Our mission drives us. Our patients inspire us. We collaborate with the world for the health of everyone in it.
Janssen Immunology has a history of bringing life-changing therapies to patients with immune-mediated diseases. One Development is an integrated group of clinicians and scientists composed of a clinical Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, a clinical Late Development (LD) team which conducts late clinical development, and a Translational Science (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end to end portfolio. Together, One Development will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, TSM (TS and TM) also serves as a pivotal bridge between Discovery Research and the LD group.
TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. TS has expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development.
This is a position within the Translational Immunomics group of Immunology Translational Sciences. The group is responsible for delivering high quality analysis of 'omics datasets (e.g. gene expression, proteomics) to support portfolio projects within the Immunology Therapeutic Area. The successful candidate will contribute to the computational biology strategy for Immunology programs and will be effective in the use of relevant computational tools to deliver analysis of high-dimensional biological data across all aspects of portfolio development.
This Scientist position will serve as a key project analyst for computational biology in the Gastroenterology disease area, accountable for analytical and platform support as well as providing strategic input to Translational Science, Translational Medicine, and Late Development colleagues. The candidate will bring an enthusiastic, rigorous and enterprise thinking mindset to Translational Sciences.
Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Effectively uses relevant computational tools to deliver analyses of high-dimensional biological data across all aspects of portfolio development; responsible for designing and performing analysis, interpretation, and reporting/communication of analysis results.
  • Ensures delivery of completed data and analyses in support of key program milestones and drive technical excellence in Translational Science and biomarker research.
  • Contributes to the strategies enabling molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and biomarker-based endpoint generation.
  • Leads projects with internal groups/external collaborators.
  • Communicates analysis results to key stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Systems Biology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field is required.
  • Experience and proficiency in analysis and interpretation of transcriptomics datasets is required.
  • Proficiency in programming with R, Python, or similar language for 'omics analysis is required.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills are required.
  • Experience working with single cell data transcriptomics is preferred.
  • Industry and/or translational research experience is preferred.
  • Experience working within cross-function teams is preferred.
