Job Description
The current opening is in the Senior Center based out of the Community Services, Parks and Recreation Department. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for transporting residents within the City on fixed and non-fixed bus routes, and operating a 22-passenger bus in accordance with established rules, regulations and policies. Must be able to work a flexible schedule of approximately 25-28 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with some weekends and occasional special events. Days and hours to be adjusted as needed by the department.
Special Requirement: This position requires a valid California Class B Driver's License with a passenger endorsement, and a satisfactory driving record at the time of application.
Duties/Responsibilities
The Community Services Shuttle Drivers are expected to perform their duties independently and may train other Shuttle Drivers as needed.
Essential Functions:
  • Interact with co-workers at all levels in the organization in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform all duties within the context of the City's Mission Statement and Organizational Values.
  • Transport participants to essential services like medical appointments, grocery store, pharmacy, bank, etc.
  • Provide transportation to Senior Trips and Tours.

Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position is qualifying. A typical example includes:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Possess valid Class B California Driver's License with passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement, and/or school bus driver certificate at the time of appointment.

Experience:
  • One year of relevant experience.

Knowledge of:
  • First Aid methods and safety practices.
  • Supplies and activities of assigned program.

Ability to:
  • Work safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate initiative.
  • Effectively work with individuals having varied socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with internal and external customers.
  • Understand, explain, and apply policies and procedures.

Training/Safety Requirements:
  • This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
  • Job specific training will be provided according to class specification during work hours.
  • Ability to obtain first aid, AED, and CPR training within six months of employment, provided by the City.

Special Requirements
  • Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation, a physical examination, which includes a drug screen, and an administrative review.

Category II - Moderate Physical Effort: Work assignments for this category require moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or climb.
Characteristics: Work assignments for this category are normally located in a work environment which has no unusual physical requirements or environmental conditions, unless separately identified. Positions in this category require only light physical effort while performing such functions as typing, writing, filing, computing, operating light office equipment, interviewing, counseling, researching, planning, analyzing, and supervising. Positions allocated to this category are distinguished by a lack of duties involving strenuous activities. These positions seldom lift more than 20 pounds.
