Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Community Outreach Worker for the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Community Outreach Worker position is to connect and engage to care, status neutral clients who need or have never accessed HIV services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
The primary purpose of the Community Outreach Worker position is to connect and engage to care, status neutral clients who need or have never accessed HIV services.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assists in the identification of focus populations, and links them to appropriate HIV services.
- Promotes messaging on Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) and, the awareness and uptake of PrEP and nPEP.
- Coordinates outreach efforts, including preparing and disseminating HIV education materials.
- Designs innovative approaches to promote HIV awareness through social media and health education workshops.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with service providers in the greater New Brunswick Community.
- Assists with creating a community engagement group and, maintains up-to-date resource materials for client services.
- Completes rapid HIV testing and documentation within established guidelines.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Four (4) years of experience in community work, preferably involving community health related activities.
- A bachelor’s Degree in social work or other related field may be substituted for the work experience.
- College credits may also be substituted for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
Certifications/Licenses
- Must also have a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have a working knowledge of New Brunswick community.
- Must be computer literate, specifically with Microsoft applications and database software.
- Written and oral fluency in Spanish and English.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to receive an updated (bivalent) vaccine dose. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
