Descriptive Statement
The Community Outreach Specialist position is a non-exempt position. The Community Outreach Specialist will be assigned to the Directing Other to Services (DOTS) team and will report to the Team Coordinator. This is a position that requires working independently with a great deal of responsibility for scheduling and follow up.

Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Attends collaboration meetings and department-related meetings
  • Educates and interacts with the public regarding technology and resources
  • Reviews and makes recommendations of project forms, policies, and processes
  • Assists with the implementation of technology connection
  • Helps departmental staff with connecting DOTS patients to resources
  • Performs minor miscellaneous clerical work (mailing, printing, data entry, etc.)
  • Assists with data collection, documentation, and reports
  • Reviews source documents for accuracy, proper authorizations, and corrects discrepancies and errors
  • Collects emails, responds to the sender, creates, and maintains data regarding contacts and education
  • Prepares requested reports including an update to the summary document/data
  • Performs any other related clerical and computer duties as required
  • Logs information in applicable Access, Excel spreadsheets and databases
  • Annually inspects all city extinguishers
  • Works with the city departments to implement Pulse Point Program to improve public safety
  • Develop surveys and reports that identify program achievements/deficiencies, establish trends, and offer practical solutions to common program challenges
  • Evaluate forms and policies and provide written recommendations to the Chief of the Department and community partners

Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, this position requires the following:
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
    • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
    • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
  • Certification in Fire Extinguisher Technician completed with 6 months of hire

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • An associate degree in administration, communications, public relations, or media relations

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including the ability to retrieve information from various locations and sources when needed. The position requires a great deal of interpersonal communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies. The individual may be frequently exposed to periods of demanding activity and moderate mental stress.
    All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination.
    Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information. This requirement applies to all existing City employees as well as external candidates seeking to fill positions that meet the given criteria.
