LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: COMMUNITY LIAISON ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Perform liaison duties between school and parents at an assigned school site; communicate with parents regarding student attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health and medical problems; refer to local agencies or school services as appropriate. Evening work is required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Perform liaison duties between school and parents at an assigned school site; communicate with parents regarding student attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health and medical problems. E Screen families for qualifications for program enrollment; enroll families. E Maintain communication with parents by telephone, home visits and mail regarding student deficiencies in attendance, behavior academic achievement, health and medical issues and related matters; provide information regarding school and community programs. E Provide translating from English to a second language as necessary; translate written materials; assist non English speaking students with various activities. E Provide transportation for parents and students when needed. E Maintain a variety of files and records related to assigned activities; order supplies and testing materials as assigned. E Promote parent involvement in school activities; coordinate parent educational programs. E Attend a variety of school and community meetings including, but not limited to, IEP, SST, speech and conferences with parents and teachers as assigned. E May assist office staff with various clerical duties as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned. CAMBODIAN LANGUAGE OPTION: Incumbents assigned to this option are required to speak, read and write fluently in English and Khmer. ENGLISH LANGUAGE OPTION: Incumbents assigned to this option are required to speak, read and write fluently in English. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Community resource organizations including various federal, State and County agencies. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Record keeping techniques. Oral and written communications skills in a second language. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Telephone techniques and etiquette. ABILITY TO: Perform liaison duties between school and parents at an assigned school site. Conduct interviews for the purpose of providing and obtaining information. Speak, read and write a designated second language as assigned. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Maintain records and prepare reports. Plan and organize work. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Meet schedules and time lines. Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplications and typing. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Work effectively in a multi ethnic setting. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and responsible experience in working in an instructional or social service program. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving a vehicle to make home visits. Constant interruptions.
