The Prince George's County Government Department of Health is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Community Health Nurse (RN) I/II position, grade A/18/A21, within its Health/Environmental/Disease Control Division.
About the Position:
This is an entry-level to full performance professional nursing position. The incumbent conducts communicable and vector-borne disease investigations, provides nursing services, direct patient care, disease education, and counseling/coordination services.
Must have and maintain a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing or a license recognized by the Compact State Agreement. The incumbent is supervised and evaluated by a higher-level Community Health Nurse in accordance with departmental rules, policies, and procedures.What You'll Do:
- Assesses, develops, and implements nursing care plans to evaluate patients.
- Provides nursing care services regarding communicable diseases.
- Documents and maintains patients' medical records in accordance with the Health department and Division's Protocols.
- Triage and assess patients and contacts health needs.
- Communicates health promotion and prevention concepts to clients.
- Educates and refers patients to patient care and counseling services.
- Conducts interview and provides appropriate medication, education, and case management to reduce the transmission of diseases.
- Assess clients' condition and need for mediation and vaccination.
- Assists with collecting, evaluation, and interpreting epidemiological, and statistical data pertaining to investigations and surveillance activities.
- Prepares investigation/summary reports.
- Collects, receives and prepares infectious disease specimens for transport to the State lab.
- Uses appropriate PPE during the performance of clinical duties.
- Interprets lab data and appropriately notifies patients and/or providers of results.
- Records case data investigation activities into the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) and performs clinical documentation in the appropriate Electronic Health Record.
- Performs other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing, or related field, plus
- A valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing, or a license recognized by the Compact State Agreement.

2. Possess and maintain a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification at the time of appointment
3. Pass a thorough background investigation
4. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
