Class Title: Community Health Nurse

Base Salary: $2,142.00 bi-weekly

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), the incumbent in this position will provide professional nursing duties within Clinical Services. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Performs public health nursing functions in specialized areas such as Family Planning, Immunizations, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Tuberculosis, HIV, Refugee Health and Hepatitis programs. Provides public health nursing services in special needs shelters. Implements care based on nursing protocols and agency policy. Completes required electronic documentation in Health Management System (HMS) and/or Florida Shots respectively.  Participates in health fairs and community events, providing clinical services, education and/or vaccinations. Provides health care, first aid, and immunization. Observes patient's skin color, dilation of pupils, and computerized equipment to monitor vital signs. Records patient's medical information and vital signs.

Administers medication as prescribed by physician and protocol. Prepares patients for and assists with and/or performs examinations. Orders, conducts, interprets, and/or evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition. Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and assists physician. Discusses cases with providers. Informs physician of patient's condition. Instructs on topics, such as health education, disease prevention, family planning, achievement of healthy pregnancy, home visits and develops health improvement programs.

Refers students or patients to community agencies furnishing assistance and collaborates with agencies. Assist with venipuncture. Maintains stock of supplies. Monitors the quality of care or standards of practice to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. Responds to special directions and instructions during emergency operations. Participate in Quality assurance and improvement activities.

Other duties including responding to natural and other disasters and working in Special Needs Shelters.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices and techniques; human anatomy and physiology; community resources; Ability to administer medications;  provide preventive health care and treatment to groups; assist in planning and conducting a variety of training activities; work with patients having a variety of physical problems; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; teach health care.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum

  • Do you have a valid state of Florida Registered Nursing License that is in good standing (with no complaints filed through the Florida Board of Nursing)?
  • Do you have verifiable experience working with any of the following programs: Immunizations, Family Planning, STD, HIV/AIDS?
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or  performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred

  • Do you have verifiable work experience using any type of computer program to manage client electronic health records?
  • Do you have at least 6 months of verifiable experience working with Immunizations, Family Planning, or STD?
  • Do you have recent experience, within the last 2 years of direct patient care?
