Overview
Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP seeks a part-time Community Engagement Intern. The position will reside in the Firm's New York office.

In addition to our pro bono legal services work, Cleary attorneys and staff members participate in a variety of extracurricular and educational Community Engagement programs, helping students in our community cultivate meaningful relationships with legal professionals; expand their professional networks; develop valuable academic, professional, and social skills; and gain confidence in themselves, their work, and their futures.
The Community Engagement Intern will be assigned to various projects that will enhance the intern's training and work experience.
Responsibilities
The Community Engagement Intern's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
  • working with the Community Engagement Specialist to update the program's knowledge management and tracking systems;
  • helping to coordinate and organize Community Engagement events and meetings;
  • assisting with planning and implementing enrichment programming for local high school students;
  • creating visually effective emails, invitations, and posters about our programming;
  • conducting research on best practices program implementation and volunteer recruitment
  • other tasks and projects as assigned by the Community Engagement Specialist.

The Community Engagement Intern will also have an opportunity to learn about Cleary Gottlieb's Pro Bono Practice and the legal profession more broadly by attending meetings with attorneys, clients, and partner organizations to gain insights into career paths in legal services for clients from underserved communities.
Qualifications
We strongly prefer rising college juniors and seniors with:
  • excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills
  • good judgment, proactive, excellent organization skills, and strong attention to detail
  • the ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous responsibilities
  • an all-hands on deck mentality, strong ability to pivot, and a willingness to jump in and support programming when necessary
  • proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • effective and proactive team-working skills; can work with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds; culturally competent
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and others
  • a demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • must be available starting in September for a yearlong commitment
