GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Community Development Technician provides essential technical assistance and administrative support within the Community Development Department. This role is pivotal in facilitating communication and coordination between the County, its departments, consultants, developers, and the public regarding land use, economic development, and permit reviews.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the public with gathering information about the land use regulations and application process.
- Conduct initial completeness review of applications.
- Utilize applicable data bases for project research and tracking including, but not limited to Geographic Information System (GIS), permit process, recorded documents, and assessor data.
- Process Site Plan Reviews and other administrative entitlements (e.g., Limited Use, Boundary Line Adjustment) for compliance with County Regulations.
- Prepare case summaries, public notices, and assist with database implementation and maintenance.
- Provide administrative support to the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings.
- Coordinate pre-application meetings and prepare application files.
- Attend evening and weekend meetings and events as scheduled.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: Associate’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent college coursework for a Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, or four years of relevant experience in a local government setting.
Licensing/Certification: Valid Colorado Driver’s License. Certification as a Permit Technician from the International Code Council (ICC) within one year of employment is preferred.
Knowledge: Understanding of basic organization and functions of agencies involved in Building and Planning processes, construction plans and practices, pertinent codes and regulations, GIS and mapping, customer service principles, research methods, modern office procedures, business writing, and basic mathematical principles.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to review plans and documents for conformance to codes and regulations, interpret and apply laws and policies, issue minor permits, assist in inspection scheduling, maintain code enforcement files, provide counter assistance, prepare accurate records and reports, communicate effectively, and establish cooperative working relationships.
