Position overview:

The Community Development Coordinator is a full-time exempt salary position of Amani Family Services, Inc., which reports to the Director of Mission Advancement. The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for building relationships between Amani and the community, coordinating Amani’s social media platforms, as well as providing education in the areas of cultural competency to non-profit and for-profit sectors. The Community Development Coordinator will also provide direct oversight of Outreach programming, which includes coordinating and attending community events on behalf of Amani and facilitating community presentations.

Amani is the only local organization entirely devoted to promoting the wellbeing of non-English speaking families through community-based counseling and casework, with the purpose of facilitating the healing of immigrants and refugees who have experienced maltreatment and violence and preventing incidents of family violence. Amani has cared for families since 2006 and it is proud to provide excellent and compassionate care for all.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Outreach/Advocacy

  • Attend community events and provide resource materials as an Amani representative
  • Conduct cultural competency trainings in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
  • Recruit and engage prospect community partners in Amani’s mission and programs
  • Collaborate with temples, parishes and congregations, community centers, community-based organizations (non-profits), schools, and for-profit entities to coordinate education and the provision of services.
  • Collaborate with other service providers and organizing groups in the community to work together, share information, and organize trainings.
  • Coordinate logistics for mission events
  • Provide up to date information to immigrant/refugee communities on Amani services, and on topics that promote family violence prevention and safety.
  • Participate in workshops for the public and collaborative partners on immigration benefits eligibility and wellbeing.
  • Participate in collaborative community committees that align with Amani’s mission and client services
  • Attend trainings and courses to remain updated on laws and policies affecting immigrants/refugees.
  • Collect accurate program data to ensure program outcomes and objectives are met.
  • Complete internal and external program reporting. This will include internal reports, as well as reports to funders that fund positions in the Outreach program.

Social Media Coordination/Marketing

  • Create and schedule social media content based on outreach efforts
  • Prepare written materials, including flyers and handouts, for community events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and interns

Other Duties

  • Serve as an ambassador of Amani and uphold high personal and professional integrity when interfacing with partner agencies or the community at large.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or Human Services related field (or university-level education equivalent from other countries) preferred
  • Experience working and building relationships in the following social sectors: non-profit, business, government or Community Development
  • Experience managing social media platforms as well as designing and deploying effective social media campaigns (samples of work required)
  • Experience in group facilitations
  • Bilingual applicants preferred
  • Certificate from an accredited Interpreter training class such as Bridging the Gap preferred
  • Language assessment showing proficient knowledge in English and a second language or proof of college –level education in a country speaking the language
  • Experience working with low-income immigrant and refugee communities preferred
  • Professional technology skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and database software. Ability to scan, edit and create PDF files and experience with shared folders

  • Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work
  • Satisfactory background checks (i.e. fingerprint, criminal history record, and motor vehicle report), as well as positive professional references are required
  • Must be able to show valid proof of employment eligibility in the United States of America

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Constant exposure to office work environment, which is typically controlled, agreeable, and in a non-smoking office
  • Work also takes place in residential and community settings where weather and cleanliness conditions may be less predictable
  • Travel may occasionally expose employee to inclement weather conditions
  • A person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the office and frequent off-site meetings
  • Frequent activity associated with attending meetings within the organization and meeting external constituents
  • Regarding meetings: observing the presenter or information being relayed, as well as detecting the message, and exchanging information is a requirement
  • The employee will occasionally be required to audibly address/convey information to large groups of people in an indoor setting
  • Frequently communicate with others and/or express oneself via meetings, over the telephone, and through written channels
  • Constantly recognize and discern written and electronic material
  • Constantly operate typical office equipment (telephone, copier, printer, fax, computer, keyboard, etc.)
  • Employee will occasionally need to position themselves to lower spaces or ground floor to reference objects/items or information such as literature
  • On an infrequent/seldom basis, employee may need to move items up to twenty-five (25) pounds when preparing for meetings, events, or gatherings
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 70% of the time
  • May frequently ascend/descend stairs during frequent off-site meetings
  • Frequently required to drive/operate a car
