Community Care Advocate

Position open at our Royal Palms residential program providing substance abuse treatment focusing on the LGBTQ+ community.

Summary

This position is responsible for identifying and engaging people experiencing homelessness through direct street-based outreach activities, screen for substance use disorders (SUD), provide harm reduction care kits, and develop partnerships with other community organizations. Outreach activities will target Los Angeles County with emphasis in communities with greater concentration of LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness. This position will work closely to support the Community Care Coordinator when conducting outreach activities in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Role model appropriate healthy and ethical behaviors in all interactions, including HIPAA and Confidentiality standards.
2. Visit communities and canvass neighborhoods in Los Angeles County.
3. Engage community members experiencing homelessness through street-based outreach activities.
4. Provide harm reduction care kits to community members.
5. Screen for SUDs for individuals who are interested in referrals for treatment.
6. Research community resources that benefit people experiencing homelessness.
7. Assist community members with accessing resources and making referrals.
8. Collect data related to outreach activities, track mileage, activity logs, and other reports as directed.
9. Build relationships with LGBTQ+ serving organizations and other community providers.

Other Requirements

1. Current registration or certification with a State approved certification agency (must become certified within five years from initial date of registration).
2. Current enrollment in an approved counselor education program with proof of progress towards completion of education required for certification.
3. Knowledge of 12-Step programs and/or philosophy.
4. Experience working with diverse populations including LGBTQ+ individuals and people experiencing homelessness.
5. Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
