An official City of West Sacramento application form must be filled out in its entirety. The NEOGOV on-line application is considered to be an official City application. It is the applicant's responsibility to explain their qualifications fully and clearly. Incomplete information on the application may be cause for disqualification. In addition, the applicant must submit a resume. Applications and resumes will be screened for qualifications. The most qualified applicants will be placed on an eligibility list. The top scoring candidates will be referred to the department for further consideration and the next step in the selection process.
DEFINITION: Hires in this classification are temporary employees. Under close supervision assists in varied administrative assignments such as research and analysis, report writing and staff presentations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives immediate direction from assigned personnel. No direct supervision of staff is exercised.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: This is a training classification in which students with current enrollment in high school or college with course work related to the area assigned can gain practical experience in assisting city staff in the performance of professional administrative or technical duties. Employment in this class is restricted to students in an accredited college curriculum in a field appropriate to assigned duties. It provides a means of part-time or summer employment whereby students can acquire valuable practical experience and a first-hand knowledge of city government. Students employed under this classification are temporary and it is not intended that any full-time permanent appointments be made in this class. Employment in this class will not exceed twenty (20) hours per week during the school year and full-time employment during the summer months or other school vacation periods. The maximum duration of employment is not to exceed two (2) years. · Assists in a wide variety of administrative and professional tasks in one of various City departments.
· Provides research assistance, writes reports, and makes recommendations on matters under study.
· Gathers, compiles, tabulates and reports statistical data.

· Interviews and consults with officials, employees and other interested persons or groups on matters related to work assignments.

Education: Satisfactory standing as defined by the high school or college or university from which the candidate is referred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: If required to drive, possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in an office or field environment; walking, standing, running, sitting for periods of time; some stooping, bending, and climbing; dealing with the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sit or stand for long periods of time; some stooping, bending and climbing; lift and/or move items up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
