Communications & Marketing Intern - Northbrook, IL

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking a creative and enthusiastic individual for a spring 2024 internship with our Communications and Marketing team at our corporate headquarters in suburban Chicago, Illinois. This role will work side-by-side with our in-house marketing professionals, gaining hands-on experience in content creation, branding, messaging, and event management in a professional services environment.

Intern Responsibilities:

• Assist with preparation and execution of 800+ person company conference May 2–4, 2024. Exposure to event planning, internal communication and employee engagement campaigns, branding, and graphic design. Availability to work on-site at event preferred.
• Support the creation of marketing and proposal materials
• Assist in the preparation and delivery of client presentations
• Develop content for the company's website, intranet, and social media platforms
• Assist in the organization of shared information and photo resources
• Assist in the development of video content for internal/external use
• Employ marketing analytics techniques to gather important data (social media, web analytics, rankings, etc.)

Qualifications WJE looks for in an Intern:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field
• Affinity for a fast-paced collaborative environment
• Ability to organize and manage workload between a variety of ongoing tasks
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Highly motivated self-starter
• Curious and excited to learn
• Familiarity with marketing computer software and social media platforms
• Good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques
• Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Photoshop, and ability to learn database programs
• Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator)

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computers, printers, fax/copy machines, telephone/voice mail systems, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:

• Ability to attend meetings at the various office, field, and construction sites
• Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
• Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
• Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
• Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
• Ability to travel
• Ability to safely work at heights
• Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
• Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
• Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
• Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
• Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

The expected hourly rates for candidates who meet the above criteria range from $22.00 an hour to $32.00 an hour based on education level.
