2024 Internship Opportunity
The Missouri Department of Agriculture is dedicated to the promotion and protection of the state's agriculture industry. With nearly 100,000 farms on more than 28 million acres of farmland, the state's Department of Agriculture works to connect farmers with consumers. More than 90% of Missouri's farms are family owned, and our family farms are committed to producing a safe and secure food supply for customers locally and globally. Additionally, more than 1 in every 10 Missouri jobs are in agriculture and forestry.
We are currently looking for a part-time Communications intern in the Office of the Director. Our internship will offer you a dynamic, skill-building spring semester in agricultural communications. Each day we work to support and promote the state's top economic driver.
Salary: $15.00/hour (part time)
Dates: Approximately mid-January through mid-May 2024 (will work with school schedule) - 12-15 hours/week
Location: Jefferson City, MO
What you'll do:
  • Photography - shooting various photo stories and providing event coverage.
  • Videography - shooting and editing for website, social media use and various Department video requests.
  • Graphic design - create print and website graphics for the Department, including websites, brochures, handouts, signage, etc.
  • Special Events - help plan and assist with special events during the internship as needed.
  • Social Media - assist our team in growing our social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Flickr.
  • Writing - support writing needs of the Department, including news releases, editorial pieces and website content.
  • Assist with monthly Employee Newsletter and current weekly e-blast.
Qualifications:
Must be a current college student with a minimum 3.0 GPA pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field; with the ability to work at the MDA office in Jefferson City a minimum of 12 hours per week in the Spring (mid-January to mid-May).
  • Beginners knowledge, at minimum, of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Understands basic photography and graphic design principles
  • Beginning to intermediate knowledge of videography
  • Interest in Missouri agriculture
