Summary

CHS, a diversified global agribusiness cooperative owned by farmers and local cooperatives across the United States, has an exciting opportunity to support the communication needs of the company’s sustainability and Government Relations teams. This position will lead the planning, development and execution of communications for sustainability, Government Relations and innovation teams.
This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies and tactics to support reputation growth from the company’s efforts in sustainability, Government Relations and innovation. Through collaboration and communication with leadership, this individual will ensure alignment with our purpose of creating connections to empower agriculture, company strategies and priorities and business and product goals. Among other strategies and tactics, the person will lead the team to plan, develop and execute various communication tactics aimed to build the CHS reputation and position the company for growth.
This individual will be part of the company’s dynamic CHS communication team and reports to the leader of brand and reputation.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a collaborative expert, providing innovative and effective communication solutions to create awareness, preference and demand for CHS and its products and services, championing new ideas that drive results
  • Understand the CHS sustainability, Government Relations and business strategies, to ensure communication strategies and tactics align with business, owner and customer needs
  • Collaboratively develop and lead execution of communication strategies aligned with company and team goals, delivering projects or initiatives that are on time, on budget, exceed stakeholder goals and expectations and support a consistently excellent CHS and communication experience
  • Establish and maintain credibility with leaders and other stakeholders through effective planning and execution of communication initiatives that consistently deliver on business goals and objectives
  • Lead and develop team in consistently delivering excellence from plan development, throughout the planning process and to achieve desired outcomes that meet business and team goals
  • Recognize interrelationship of business and communication objectives and ensure effective ongoing communication and collaboration to inform, build trust, ensure alignment, achieve objectives and deliver results
  • Measure for effectiveness and continuous improvement, applying and sharing learnings to further build communication proficiency and support for the team’s work across the business

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 7+ years of experience in strategic communication
  • Experience creating and implementing internal and external communication strategies and programs
  • Business acumen and interest in the agribusiness and/or energy industry
  • Experience working with sustainability and/or government affairs leaders to bring strategic communication plans to life that support and enhance efforts
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate a complex global organization
  • Demonstrable experience creating internal and external presentations for leaders, including speeches, power point presentations and multimedia content
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills to clearly articulate ideas and strategies
  • Strong writing and editing skills paired with content development acumen and strategic storytelling
  • Experience creatively interfacing with other teams within a company including businesses and enabling functions
  • Experience operating independently and executing flawlessly on strategic and tactical levels

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Communications, Communication Arts, Marketing, Journalism, Business, English, or related field
  • Experience with ESG reporting
  • Experience supporting executive communications
  • Ability to work in-person 1-2 days/week at the CHS headquarters in Inver Grove Heights
