The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Center for Health Innovation and Transformative Care at the University of Kansas are looking for a motivated and creative communicator to fill the role of Communications and Events Coordinator. This position requires a communications professional with strong capabilities in multimedia development, social media engagement, website management, and event planning. The new hire will be expected to coordinate with department and center leadership to develop and implement communications plans that capitalize on the resources and creativity across KU. This position will work to enhance the presence and reputation of KU while promoting our R&D capabilities and accomplishments both internally and externally.
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (https://www.kumc.edu/school-of-medicine/academics/departments/otolaryngology.html) has a robust research portfolio and is ranked within the top 30 of Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research rankings for NIH funding in otolaryngology departments. The Department is highly collaborative with partners across the KU system and enjoys a national reputation as a leader in otolaryngology.
In 2021, KU Otolaryngology launched a national consortium with partners across the U.S. to address health inequities in the field of otolaryngology. In 2022, department leadership worked with KU School of Medicine clinical chairs and University of Kansas Health System administrators to form a new health innovation center focused on developing new technologies to advance the art of medicine.
The new Center for Health Innovation and Transformative Care at the University of Kansas (https://www.kumc.edu/research/center-for-health-innovation-and-transformative-care.html) has rich connections spanning the KU system including the School of Medicine clinical departments, School of Nursing, School of Health Professions, and Research Informatics; Office of the CIO, Provider Informatics, and Provider Wellness at the University of Kansas Health System; the schools of Engineering, Business, and Design on the KU Lawrence campus; the Frontiers CTSA; the KU Office of Research and KU Center for Technology Commercialization, and other central offices across the KU system. This position reflects a unique opportunity to collaborate across KU and coordinate a growing communications portfolio.Job Description:
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, public relations, or related field.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum one (1) year of related work experience in a communications related role.
    • Related experience: Event planning; writing publications, e.g., professional correspondence, press releases, newsletters, manuscripts; creating and maintaining web pages; social media management and engagement; designing and producing rich media, e.g., videos, infographics, photography.
  • Experience using creative design software, e.g., Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro.
  • Experience leveraging data analytics for website and social media engagement.
  • Experience coordinating projects and Events, including planning and executing activities from inception to completion.

Preferred Qualifications
Work experience:
  • Advanced proficiency in graphic design and video editing.
  • Experience using social media platforms, e.g., Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • Experience creating and overseeing budgets for projects.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Duties
  • Generate multimedia content, including high quality photos, videos, audio, and infographics.
  • Manage social media, including posting engaging and timely content, building community and boosting interaction, and monitoring analytics for strategic growth.
  • Create and maintain website content.
  • Disseminate news for internal and external audiences.
  • Plan and coordinate events.
  • Other duties as assigned

Comprehensive Benefits Package:

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
