Description
Take 911 emergency and non-emergency calls to provide help to the public. Ensure help is sent the correct way to each patient. Train new Dispatchers.
Duties
  • Take 911 calls.
  • Dispatch Police/Fire/Ambulance.
  • Post ambulances accordingly.
  • Update information in CAD.
  • Take non-emergency transfers.
  • Staff any long distance transfers.
  • Notify DEM and officers of large events.
  • Work with surrounding agencies.
  • Assist Captains with emergency staffing issues.
  • Keep track of fleet.
  • Clean Dispatch daily.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge to operate computer aided dispatch 9-1-1 systems. Receive emergency service calls from the public requesting law enforcement, for ambulance or other emergency service

  • Clearly and effectively communicate information and respond to questions on the phone, over the radio, person-to-person and in small groups
  • Type accurately at a speed necessary for successful job performance
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram formats
  • Frequent decision making of minor and major importance
  • Operations requiring very close and continuous attention for control of operations which require a high degree of coordination or immediate response
  • Operations requiring intermittent direct thinking to determine or select the most applicable way of handling emergency situations
  • Moderate problem solving skills
  • Able to multitask and operate telephones, radios and other equipment simultaneously

Education
  • State Certified High School diploma or GED

Requirements:
  • Valid Oklahoma State Driver's License
  • Prefer one (1) year experience in receiving and processing public service calls in law enforcement or fire agency
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a State Terminal Certification issued by the State of Oklahoma within six (6) months of hire date

This is a Safety Sensitive position:
This job has been classified as a "safety sensitive" position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. In this position, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, which might include random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a Medical Marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for Marijuana.
Supplemental Info
  • Required Testing:
    • pass a typing test with minimum 30 wpm.
    • pass 10-key at 70%
    • Written exam covering: Reading, Listening, Problem Solving/Prioritizing, and Multi-tasking with combined minimum score of 70%
