Commissioning Engineer

Position Summary

• Fields start-up and commissioning support for advanced products
• Supports Project Manager during factory acceptance and system acceptance testing with customer as required
• Supports Project Manager in developing, designing, testing, troubleshooting, installing advanced product
• Supports design activities including electrical wiring, mechanical designs and review
• Generates and supports all technical documentation including manuals, training handbooks, training certification programs and sales/marketing literature
• Performs technical training classes for advanced product to internal and external customers
• Responsible for becoming familiar with:
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airport policies, procedures and products.
  • FAA Advisory Circulars and understand the airfield lighting industry and product lines
  • ICAO Advisory Circulars as required for international projects
  • relevant international and national standards (FAA, ICAO) and CE/EMC/IEC requirements
• Responsible for communicating / promoting company image to the airport lighting industry during system installation and training
• Responsible for national and international travel at a minimum of 65-75% of the time. Travel periods may exceed 7 days at a time

Essential Functions

Site Project Support

• Coordinates on site electrical contractor installation requirements
• Coordinates on site schedule and itinerary with contractors
• On site:
  • system power up of equipment
  • validation of computer / PLC hardware installation
  • communication / network testing and validation
• System Readiness Check of all system equipment
• Performs / Assists in Systems Acceptance Testing and formal customer walk through

Project Management Support

• Supports project lifecycle from quote to customer acceptance
• Works with and follow a project plan, communication plan and associated documents
• Manages
  • assigned milestones, deadlines and tasks
  • project risks, identify potential risks and provide feedback to the Project Manager
  • budget including labor, material and travel expenses for assigned tasks

Bid Preparation Support

• Provides input for estimating the resources and schedule requirements needed to achieve project tasks
• Provides support for the preparation of technical written Submittal packages for custom projects

Hardware / Software Design Support

• Reviews and provides input to product design and changes
• Supports
  • design team to produce custom drawing packages for each project
  • design activities including electrical wiring, mechanical designs and review
  • Software Engineer activities including software testing and installation

Testing and Validation Support

• Utilizes software standards and processes to produce test plans
• Produces test plans for factory and system acceptance and perform / support project testing and validation
• Performs both in house and field testing and customer validation testing

Training and Presenting

• Utilizes training standards and processes to produce internal and customer training programs
• Performs technical training internally or for customers

Electrical, Electronics and Computers

• Well versed in basic electronics including low voltage and high voltage
• Able to design and review electrical wiring diagrams and 1-line diagrams
• Able to troubleshoot electrical systems using wiring diagrams
• Advanced understanding of computers, computer networks and network communications

Education/Experience

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or equivalent degree
• 2-4 years related experience or the equivalent combination of experience and education
• 2-4 years of experience working as a field technician or related
• International travel experience
• AutoCAD / Drafting / Design experience
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and able to maintain an insurable driving record
• Must pass any required BCI and FBI Background Check

Languages

• Fluent English (oral and written communication skills)
• Fluent Spanish desirable (oral and written communication skills)

Work Environment

The job will generally be performed on customer sites in industrial environments, and will require travel to visit a customer’s location or construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location. While on a job site the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions that include wet and/or humid, cold and heat conditions, working near moving mechanical parts. The employee will be working with and around high voltage and high current equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
