COMMERCIAL LENDING LEADER I
Exempt
Reports to: Vice President Lending

Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission: To encourage a better tomorrow. You will do this by living out our core values in every service contact to both internal and external members.
Essential Duties
  • Provide Leadership & Development of all Commercial Team Members; Sales, Operations, Credit, Business Development and oversee all functions of the department. Provide timely and actionable feedback to individual staff members on their performance, presenting disciplinary actions, addressing employee complaints, counseling on career growth opportunities, and participation in staff meetings.
  • Maintain loan portfolios, build new and deepen existing relationships by ensuring Member satisfaction through timely responses on new requests, loan renewals and delinquencies.
  • Possess strong knowledge of business lending terms and practices with the ability to manage risk by maintaining continuing education on State and Federal Regulations to stay in compliance at all times.
  • Manage the on-going development and maintenance of credit policy and procedures.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all credit union employees. Demonstrate the ability to work independently. Work as a team player to contribute to the success of the department and the organization

Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by this position. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and skills required of this position. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
  • Work closely with other lines of business within the credit union to cross-sell products and promote a strong referral network.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends that may affect the credit union's business loan department. Provide timely feedback that allows the credit union to react competitively

Credit Management
  • Understand and periodically assess the validity of internal risk rating system. Recommend changes to the model as necessary.
  • Implement and manage the use of business lending software (Sage Works, LaserPro) to maximize efficiency within the department.
  • Act as a liaison with software providers and IT area for on-going systems updates and other issues

Portfolio Management
  • Manage existing portfolio to ensure loan renewals are completed on a timely basis to avoid administrative past dues.
  • Manage the annual review process to ensure that annual reviews are completed in a timely fashion and that loans within the credit union portfolio are properly risk graded.
  • Provide a second point of contact for the member, strengthening the relationship with the credit union, by joining lenders on member visits.
  • Prepare communications to members requesting financial information annually

Staff Management
  • Manage Credit Department staff to ensure job responsibilities are properly assigned and being completed.
  • Prepare and present special projects, reports and assignments as requested

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit or stand for 2-4 hours at a time.

Work Environment
  • Must maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Routinely clean and disinfect work areas (i.e. teller stations, desk surfaces, phones, electronic equipment).
  • Protect the confidentiality of credit union staff and members by locking door or removing items from desk/workstation when away.

Education and Experience
  • Three to five years similar or related Commercial Lending experience
  • (1)A Bachelor's degree, or (2) Achievement of formal certifications recognition in the industry as equivalent to a Bachelor's degree (i.e. Credit Union Business Lending Professional in lieu of degree)
  • Three to five years of credit experience with a financial institution
  • Three to five years of experience supervising and training multiple employees
  • Strong credit experience in analyzing business financial statements to assess the viability of a business.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
