Description
The Chalk Point Generating Station is a 1,615 MW electric generating plant. The Combustion Turbine Technician is intended for an individual with extensive experience and advanced subject matter knowledge of Combustion Turbine aero derivative technology. This knowledge can be gained through on-the-job experience and a combination of college/technical training.
The Combustion Turbine Tech is responsible for all day-to-day activities at the facility. From daily rounds and maintenance tasks to running the turbines in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Must complete Power Combustion Turbine Technician Qualification Course within 24 months. Course includes:

- Operational Fundamentals: CT startup, shutdown, components, and terminology
- Balance of Plant equipment O&M
- Water Treatment including analysis, testing and water chemistry.
- Complete plant safety program
- Understand all relevant plant permits (i.e.) air, water, NPDES, etc.
- Complete environmental orientation
- Complete all required OSHA training including Emergency response
- Quality Assurance: operational excellence through adherence to quality standards. - Conduct of Operations
  • Maintain high professional, personnel and equipment safety and environmental consciousness and compliance standards and
  • Perform other assigned independent, team, or shift tasks such as system expert, industrial safety program activities, routine maintenance tasks, housekeeping, and general facility surveillance,
  • Assist in developing and defining operational policies and
  • Assist in identifying and implementing profit improvement
  • Provide input to facility annual budget and training plan for plant operations.
  • Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements, which may involve extended and/or abnormal work
  • Perform assigned maintenance activities in the areas of mechanical, electrical, instrument, control and warehousing dependent on specialty training and
  • Assist in the selection, administration, and oversight of contractors, which support plant maintenance and warehousing activities. Examples include electrical, mechanical, gas and steam turbine maintenance support, janitorial and building and grounds contractor, predictive maintenance assistance, garbage and snow removal contractors, HVAC contractor, welding, and machine work assistance, etc.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Technical degree and/or three to five years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in predictive maintenance and Combustion Turbine diagnostics.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in electric generating power plant operations or other process operations and maintenance and having an overall knowledge of power plant equipment and operations including theory.
  • Additional skills in a maintenance or technical discipline such as mechanic, welding, water chemistry, electrician, instrument and control, gas turbines, environmental, waste systems management, experience in heavy industry is required.
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting skills relevant to electrical, instrument and controls.
  • Possess Combustion Turbine operating/maintenance experience on G.E., Siemens and/or DCS/SCADA controls.
  • Familiar with PLC diagnostics and with troubleshooting experience.
  • Familiarity with Plant Historians and Trending.
  • Understand predictive maintenance technology.
  • Perform and document job relevant activities in a manner supporting various regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated abilities in safe work practices including hazard recognition and mitigation.
  • Ability to qualify and maintain qualifications as a control room and roving operator.
  • Ability to perform product and chemical sampling per procedure.
  • Must qualify for the use of a respirator.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
  • Experience or ability to become versatile in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with external and internal entities.
  • Always maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

  • Ability to work rotating shiftwork, holidays, weekends, and overtime.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to interpret and apply instructions, specifications, blueprints, and procedures.
  • Possess a valid jurisdictional driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and time management skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to perform work both indoors and outdoors, requiring continuous physical activity, sometimes of a strenuous and stressful nature.
  • Ability to work in enclosed vessels or confined spaces.
  • Ability to use various hand/power driven and hydraulic tools and machinery.
  • Ability to use arms, legs, feet, and hands in a fully coordinated manner.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, twist, kneel, crawl, pull/push and lift to 50 pounds, stand, walk, and squat for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work on or around energized electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights including scaffolding.
  • Ability to work alone in remote areas.
  • Ability to work in areas with limited lighting.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from very cold to very hot.
  • Possess good hearing and vision.
  • Ability to work in areas that may be noisy and dirty.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to meet appropriate physical evaluations identified as prerequisites to performing certain tasks and training activities.
