The City of Spartanburg's Building Department is seeking a person to inspect commercial and residential construction for compliance with adopted building codes. Desired candidate will be someone comfortable working in a combination of building trades, primarily mechanical.Performs inspections of installation and construction projects in process for compliance with codes, plans and regulations; reports all violations observed.
Reviews and checks blueprints, plans, and sketches for proposed construction, alteration, or repair.
Ensures that all workers on a job are qualified and licensed; reports all violations to appropriate authority.
Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports daily; performs related clerical and record keeping tasks as needed.
Assists in resolution of citizens' complaints regarding contracted work; responds tactfully to inquiries and complaints orally or via written correspondence.
Assists Building Official and other inspectors in interpreting, applying and enforcing codes and regulations.
Directs preparation and submission of forms, letters, and related information on projects undergoing inspections.
Generates, compiles, and files daily inspection reports on various projects.
Performs other work as requested.Requires a high school diploma or GED and four (4) years experience in the construction and/or inspections field. Requires knowledge of State adopted International Building Codes to include the IRC, IBC, IMC, IPC, IFGC and NEC. Should possess the appropriate certifications from the International Code Congress (applicants not possessing the required certifications must earn a Commercial Building Inspector's certification within 12 months of employment and an another trade Certification within 24 months); SC Drivers License.Salary depends on experience.Employment Type: Full-time
