The College Success Coach for 21st Century Scholars position at Purdue serves as a coach and support through initiatives that include pre-admissions programming, consistent academic progress check-ins, ScholarTrack account review and upkeep, career coaching liaison, financial aid and bursar progress check-ins, and activities that increase students' college-going and persistence, college completion, and retention of college graduates in Indiana. The program is rooted in four programmatic goal areas, including: 1. Academic Performance and Persistence, 2. Student Engagement and Enrichment, 3. Career Exploration and Preparation, and 4. Financial Literacy and Debt Management.
21st Century Scholars is a four-year experience offering financial assistance and targeted support for low-income Indiana residents. Many are first-generation and/or racially minoritized. It is designed to minimize barriers to success and provide care and coaching to retain and graduate scholars in preparation for navigating life after college.
Some of the job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coach a caseload of 21st Century Scholars, providing high-touch individualized care and support toward academic, social, leadership, and life skills development
- Serve as the first contact for scholars' concerns, issues, and needs (ex. scholarship advising)
- Provide meaningful networking and social opportunities, leadership development programming, and civic engagement activities
- Track students' academic progress and connect scholars with ongoing job and career-related exploration resources
- Maintain and update student tracking databases and files, including recording all interactions with scholars
- Work with campus partners to support scholars' success and facilitate referrals for on-and-off-campus resources
Purdue's Compensation:
Full-year commitment from or near November 1, 2023 - October 31, 2024. With the opportunity to extend from November 1, 2024 - October 31, 2025, pending review of the State Budget Committee.
- The salary is $41,400.00 with a generous benefits package
A cover letter is required to be fully considered
- Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
- Two (2) years of experience in experience with advising and/or personal and academic coaching, teaching, advocacy, financial aid, personal and career development, case management/outreach, and mentoring.
- Affirm sensitivity to issues regarding equity and diversity, and handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Be a self-starter with strong organization, time management, and programming skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrated flexibility with program changes
Preferred
- Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or Human Services
- Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and other marginalized or minoritized students
- Understand financial aid/scholarship requirements for 21st Century Scholars
- Portray knowledge of Higher Education recruitment, orientation, access, transition, retention, and success
