Function / Position Summary
Assist with safety objectives for all schools within the district. Assignments will include special projects and/or programs to ensure safety in all schools.
Note: This is a College Intern program and requires that the applicant is enrolled in a Graduate or Undergraduate practicum or intern program, or the equivalent.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Participate in training sessions along with teachers and administrative staff.
- Inspect and test safety equipment that is currently in place. Note failed units and advise maintenance regarding repairs.
- Conduct inspections at schools for Safety and security procedures, equipment, and process. Make corrective and preventive actions to correct deficiencies.
- Check for proper procedures within specified schools (Security Checks).
- Become National Incident Management System (NIMS) certified in ICS (Incident Command System) 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Review studies and reports on past safety issues within the district. Summarize and recommend additional or alternative emergency plans.
- Assist with operational drills and evaluate emergency response actions. Adjust emergency response plans and procedures to reflect improved efficiency as appropriate.
- Work with the Health Services Department and School Nurses on inventory control, public health messages and school attendance.
- Attend meetings as requested.
- Review all School District Safety Materials.
- Graduate or Undergraduate student currently enrolled in a Criminal Justice or Public Health Educational Program.
- Good organizational skills
- Strong ability to communicate ideas
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Office
- Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the work day
- 320 hours, 4 hours per day, for approximately 4 months. This is a temporary position with a maximum of 320 hours for a four-month period; position then terminates.

- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
