SUMMARY
As a Physician Coding Specialist, your strong attention to detail and up-to-date knowledge of medical coding guidelines makes you a subject matter expert and vital resource for physicians.
STATUS: Full time
LOCATION: Riedman Campus
DEPARTMENT: Outpatient Coding
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday days
ATTRIBUTES
- Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-1, CPT-4 codes, coding guidelines, insurance payment for services and insurance edits/rejections for services required
- Minimum of two (2) years previous work experience coding medical professional services strongly preferred
- Experience interacting directly with physicians and other allied health professionals
- Excellent computer, interpersonal/communication and training skills
- Experience with EPIC preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coding. Assign appropriate ICD-9-CM and/or ICD-1 and CPT-4 codes with at least 95% accuracy on a consistent basis; update charge codes used across assigned practices; ensure optimum reimbursement through complete, compliant and accurate coding
- Leadership. Update and train physicians and mid-level providers on changes taking place in coding of services; meet with physicians in each of the clinical settings to provide regular and routine updates on their performance as well as to answer questions; guide physicians to reduce the number and nature of rejections for assigned departments
- Evaluation. Ensure documentation in the medical record supports the charges abstracted and are in compliance with Medicare guidelines and regulations; identify opportunities to capture additional clinical revenues

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
