  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Required: Valid, current High School Coaching Permit issued by Connecticut State Department of Education, including documentation of continuing education credits required for renewal
    • Required: Valid, current concussion training and required refresher training as specified in Conn. Gen. Stat. §10-149b. Training courses for coaches re concussions and head injuries; Conn. Ge. Stat. § 10-149c. Student athletes and concussions. Removal from athletic activities; and Public Act 14-66. An Act Concerning Youth Athletics and Concussions.     • Required: Valid, current CPR/AED, first aid and mandated reporter training
    • Required: Valid, current Connecticut driver's license
    • Required: Two years' experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The coach organizes and conducts adaptive sports and recreation programs and activities as a core member of a high functioning, effective and dynamic team of staff and volunteers to advance the mission of HSC Community Services, Inc. Each coach provides safe instruction, support and consultation in the specific sport or sports in which they are appropriately qualified for athletes and caregivers, ensuring compliance with all organization and regulatory requirements.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Maintain a safe and healthy fitness training environment that conforms to all local, state, federal, association and HSCSCI guidelines and regulations.
    • Organize and conduct practice sessions for participants including team and individualized conditioning, training and preparation for competition sessions that incorporate participant development, age, diagnosis and/or required adaptions and ability. This includes one or more sessions to be offered during HFSC Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp.
    • Provide sport-specific guidance to participants, volunteers and parents/guardians as appropriate to support safe participation in training and competitive activities.
    • Manage, maintain and repair sport-specific equipment including transportation, set-up, breakdown and storage of equipment, if applicable.
    • Support athlete participation in local, regional and national events and competitions up to and including assistance with registration/documentation as well as attendance and on-site support if approved by HSCSCI.
    • Provide timely communication to stakeholders (HSCCSI adaptive sports program manager and designee, parents/guardians and participants) regarding training session schedules, schedule changes or cancellations; participant injury or behaviors of concern.
    • Provide documentation of training or other required information to regional and national sport governing body representatives, potential athlete support and funding organizations or other entities to support participant advancement in training or competition.
    • Maintain and submit required reports to HSCCSI adaptive sports program manager or designee as required including incident and accident reports (immediately), attendance (weekly) individualized progress reports (monthly), post-competition reports (as needed) and annual reports including total number of unique participants, total number of program hours, summary of program achievements and participant outcomes, as well as inventory and status of program equipment.
    • Support athlete participation in activities that raise awareness of adaptive sports program and provide other services upon reasonable request by HSCCSI necessary to carry out the assigned sport or fitness program.
