Position summary:

voestalpine Specialty Metals in Houston, TX is looking for an experienced CNC Machine Programmer and Machinist. The ideal candidate will be capable of developing and proving full machining process for complex parts from initial product design review through programming, tooling/fixturing and process verification to delivering production parts, which meet required specifications. Key Responsibilities: (Expectations of the Position)

  • Review and interpret product design information (design input), available 2D drawings, GD&T, 3D electronic models and other product specifications in order to develop and propose the most suitable machining/production process.
  • Consider and select all tooling and fixturing that may be required to produce the parts. Design and participate in making of needed fixtures and set up components.
  • Use Fusion360 software package to generate machine toolpaths. Verify generated toolpaths. Post process the program, and upload to a machine controller.
  • Independently perform initial machine setup and run Doosan CNC Lathe and Mill first articles. Fine tune machining process. Update all related processes, programs and documentation until first articles are successfully machined. Coordinate efforts with other team members to make sure that they are updated with the progress and that proposed timelines are met.
  • Finalize machining process and approve for short and long run production.
  • Operate machine to run production batches.
  • Train, support and direct other machine operators as needed.
  • Stay on top of the engineering changes and re-work that may be required.
  • Update machining processes and maintain revision levels.

Skills and Experience:

  • Programing Fusion360 experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings in both drawing standards - ISO and ANSI
  • Proficiency in understanding and interpreting of the Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing system (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of basic 3D computer modelling and capability to open, review and manipulate 3D electronic math data in various formats - STEP, IGES, Parsolid, Catia…etc.
  • Solid knowledge of various machining processes with focus on advanced turning and 3D milling processes
  • Good knowledge of various materials machining properties from aluminum to more exotic materials such as nickel alloys.
  • High proficiency in creating machining toolpaths in Fusion 360, ability to communicate with machine controller and upload post processed programs.
  • Capability to control and monitor machining process, adjust machining parameters in native "G" code, fine tune the programs and implement the changes to improve machining process.
  • High proficiency in using various types of measuring instruments and equipment (knowledge of CMM inspection techniques is an asset)
  • Experience with post machining processes like deburring, basic polishing etc.
  • Capability to machine, inspect and deliver parts in a timely manner.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in machining and utilizing all of the above skills in a manufacturing/production environment.

Required Education:

  • College Technician / Technologist graduate, engineering related University, High school with additional training related to the machining field will be considered.

Languages

  • Local language, Fluent in English
  • Additional languages a plus

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule:

  • Day shift (Monday-Friday)
  • Overtime/Weekends as needed
