Position Title: CNC Machine Operator 1
Department: Machine Operations
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Category: Non-Exempt
Shift: 5:00am – 3:30pm M-TH (4–10-hour days)
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 DOE
Summary:
Under supervision, operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal. Set up, assist with programing, and operate a VMC (Vertical Machining Center), Manual Lathe and CNC gantry style router to produce precision metal and plastic parts and components. As a precision component maker, will fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical components. Will also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Set up, conduct basic programming, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations under some direction.
- Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
- Confer with lead, supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, and to obtain approval to continue production.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Inspects materials prior to machining for flaws/defects, reports to Supervisor.
- Inspects and ensures quality of work produced to be delivered to downstream customers.
- Works to control material waste to reduce costs.
- Lift work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
- Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Transport via fork or other type of lifts the raw and finished materials.
Experience and Education:
High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).
Minimum of 1 year working with hand tools, power tools, and related production/shop equipment
1+ years of CNC Mill and Manual Lathe Operation preferred
Some Mastercam Experience/Knowledge preferred
Ability to Pass Internal Forklift Certification training
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift to 40 lbs. Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to complete tasks.
- Ability to drive and operate a Forklift
