Cloud Engineer

This is a hybrid role, based in G-Research's office in Dallas.

The role
G-Research's Infrastructure group is looking for a Cloud Engineer to join its expanding global team in Dallas.
The team covers a diverse portfolio of products and services including, but not limited to:

• Linux OS lifecycle management
• Bare metal and virtual server provisioning
• Management of on-premises and public cloud services
• Customized applications to assist with the management and security of our Linux offering

As a Cloud Engineer, you'll primarily work on delivering the on-premises cloud platform powered by OpenStack.
You will help to design, build and support this new private cloud platform and help drive its adoption and expansion while also collaborating with Linux Engineers, Software Engineers, Security and other infrastructure teams.
Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Designing, deploying and maintaining a highly scalable and secure cloud platform
• Ensuring workloads running on the private cloud platform are deployed optimally
• Recommending and implementing continuous improvements to the cloud platform
• Ensuring the platforms are configured and maintained from code
• Contributing to the upstream OpenStack open source project
• Running performance diagnostics and tuning of the entire stack
• Capacity planning to ensure seamless scale-out without impacting services
• Security-hardening the platforms and supporting systems
• Providing platform support

There is a large focus on applying automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), alongside the use of CI/CD tools and methodologies in all of our engineering work.
We use open source tooling and best practices to increase the pace of delivery, and have embedded a continuous improvement culture and philosophy across the organisation.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• A background in running, maintaining and upgrading large production cloud platforms
• Virtualization experience, such as OpenStack, KVM and/or VMware
• Linux experience and troubleshooting ability
• Terraform and/or Ansible experience
• Coding/scripting ability, ideally in Python
• Exposure to network administration
• Knowledge of CI/CD and/or VCS tools, such as Jenkins, Github
• Knowledge of container technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience of using IaC principles to manage infrastructure
