General Summary of PositionResponsible for working with Clinical Teams across MedStar Health and Supply Chain Departments to ensure that the strategic vision of the organization is supported through evidence-based evaluation of clinical supply quality, contract compliance, standardization, and supply chain cost containment. Enhances the direct involvement of clinical staff in the Value Analysis process in order to improve the outcomes of product selection and implementation by increasing participation of clinical leaders and staff. Functions as a liaison between Supply Chain teams, vendors, clinicians, caregivers, and providers to enable better and more timely decisions on supplies and services. Serves as a subject matter expert to promote and educate the organization on Value Analysis best practices that improve the cost and quality outcomes of patient care. Responsible for the advancement of clinical effectiveness, patient safety, quality of outcome, operating expense reduction and overall cash preservation through the leadership and execution of industry best practices. Evaluates the clinical and financial benefits from strategic sourcing initiatives, new products, and trials. Supports backorder and patient safety incident resolution with identification and recommendation of clinically acceptable alternatives. Leverages the culture of continuous improvement to continue to enhance and develop the Value Analysis program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to 1.department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Approaches issues in an informed and logical manner using process and problem-solving tools (process, problems, root causes, how is customer impacted, what are key data, etc.).
  • Assesses and determines education and training needs for product conversions and implementations.
  • Promotes and educates the organization the core principles and processes associated with Value Analysis.
  • Assesses and determines need for trials for product clinical acceptability.
  • Conducts evidenced based research on each product being evaluated and presents findings in a clear concise fashion. Product reviews to include but not limited to: Evidence Based Practice Research, Financial Implications, FDA Disposition, Infection Control Implications and Capital Implications.
  • Develops and implement tools and process to communicate and measure Clinical Value Analysis financial and quality outcomes, which includes communication with Physicians and Clinical Staff and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensures that products, services and systems selected comply with established hospital policies and procedures and end user requirements.
  • Establishes a standard methodology for product evaluations and clinician engagement utilizing quality and clinical evidence criteria. Combines a business case (financial benefits) and clinical analysis review to drive informed decisions. Develops and distributes relevant reports, metrics, and healthcare industry innovations to Supply Chain and Value Analysis teams.
  • Identifies opportunities, selects, supports and manages initiatives that improve the processes and management for patient and caregiver safety and quality.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates all recommendations for additions, deletions, changes, and standardization of products. Provides guidance in cost containment, reimbursement, contract compliance, standardization and utilization efforts.
  • Provides leadership, as part of a team of Clinical Value Analysis (CVA) Supply Chain Leaders, to develop, implement, and maintain a Clinical Value Analysis process at MedStar Health. Represents assigned service line(s) for Clinical Value Analysis activities across MedStar Health.
  • Researches and identifies savings opportunities related to products and supplies and is accountable for cost/benefit estimates for assigned service line(s). Responsible for staying current on service line product-related market conditions, new products and technology related to their service line.
  • Trends, maintains, and/or improves the service line's supply expense key performance indicators that are based on benchmarks and satisfaction scores. Solicits and monitors consistent customer feedback relative to product implementations and conversions.
  • Develops and distributes launch brief packages inclusive of communications, required conversion product cross-walks, required training/education, in-service documentation, and implementation checklists, as appropriate.
  • Leverages new product tracking system to oversee the end to end new product and technology entry request process to ensure appropriate due diligence, decision making for approval/denial, and timely communication with sponsors and requesters.
  • Supports the resolution of product concerns by trending data on reoccurring concerns and facilitating Value Analysis council decisions on changes required to support improvements in clinical satisfaction and patient care
  • Validates documented outcomes.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary sourcing, quality, and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree required or
    • an equivalent combination of education required and
    • related experience. required and
    • Master's degree in Healthcare, Business preferred or
    • Supply Chain preferred

    Experience
    • 5-7 years Relevant clinical experience required and
    • Experience leading teams and facilitating work groups to drive change. Demonstration of financial and business acumen. required and
    • Participation or membership on a Value Analysis committee or team. Leading individual contributors in a clinical setting. preferred

    Licenses and Certifications
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure RN license preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
    • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint preferred.
    • Experience and training in a change management methodology preferred.
    • Understanding and demonstrated experience in project management.
    • Comfortable with public speaking and meeting facilitation with proven ability to present and influence at all levels of an organization.
    • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills; strong listening skills; naturally inclusive in decision-making environments.
    • Strong strategic thinking instincts; candidate looks for implications and opportunities that could be leveraged across the enterprise.
