Course Description
CNSS-637 D Group Body/Movement Observation & Assessment (2 Credits)
The second semester of a two-semester series in which students are introduced to a range of movement observation frameworks. Within the context of clinical application, this course focuses on movement observation and assessment as a collaborative endeavor between counselor/DMT/BP and mover/client. The impact of sociocultural locations and identities as well as power dynamics are considered as they relate to observing and assessing movement. Additionally, students continue to explore the relationship between their own movement patterns and biases as they interface with those of others so that this awareness becomes a resource for effectively working with transference and countertransference in counseling. In both semesters, the process of observing the body and its movement patterns is approached from the integrative vantage points of theoretical knowledge, practiced observation, and personal embodiment.
