About our Center and Research: The Center for Memory & Aging (CMA) at UNM is funded primarily from National Institute of Health (NIH) grant mechanisms, our main projects involve longitudinal study of older participants with and without cognitive problems, including collection of MRIs, cognitive, neurological, and biospecimen data. Currently all our research studies work with older adults, ages 50 and above. The Center for Memory & Aging is a growing center with a focus on research in Alzheimer's and related dementias. We have a long record of continued research funding.

The CMA is seeking a self-starter, motivated, candidate to coordinate the day-to day activities for research studies. The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating research clinical trials or participant-based research studies. Understanding and training in Human Research as well as Good Clinical Practice will be required.

The responsibilities will include recruiting and scheduling patients for multiple ongoing research studies. Ensure protocol adherence for each specified study and maintaining accurate records. The position will also require preparation of required forms and working with local groups such as: the local IRB (the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO)), the MIND Research Network (MRN), HSC research pharmacy, and the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC). Duties also include the collection, compilation, and management of study data and review of patient records for past and present health issues. The individual in this position must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community, particularly older adults with cognitive difficulties and their families. This employee will work with confidential information and data, work directly with patients and physicians. Schedule and coordinate research appointments and examinations. Position will also require drawing and processing of blood samples in preparation of storage, analysis or shipping. Position may involve sporadic travel for recruitment events, generally within the Albuquerque area.

Conditions of Employment
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Certification/LicensureCurrent ACRP Certification as Clinical Research Coordinator or eligible for certification.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for candidates who have experience in the following:

       Working with older patients and their families; working with a diverse population who may have declining cognition

       Experience and proficiency with phlebotomy, especially drawing blood from older adults. Formal training or certification is not required but would be advantageous.

       Experience working with IRB and maintaining regulatory documentation

       Coordinating large patient-centered research studies, such as industry sponsored clinical pharmaceutical trials or large NIH studies

       Experience utilizing Powerchart or other electronic medical records (EMR) systems; working with confidential patient medical information

       Experience recruiting, scheduling and maintaining rapport with patients and their families

       Experience administering research assessments such as cognitive test batteries, depression scales, etc.
