General Summary/Overview Statement 

                                                                                                                                        

The entry-level Clinical Research Coordinator 1(CRC) will support research in advanced home-based care, specifically to carry out studies of rehabilitation and other advanced care at home. These studies deploy to the home trained and upskilled care team members, wearable biosensors, machine learning analytics, and other health information technology (HIT).

The CRC will have a diversity of roles and should be competent after training to perform all of the following: 1) patient identification; 2) physician support; 3) patient-facing surveys and functional tests; 4) field-based (home and other facility) visits for surveys and functional tests; 5) electronic health record (EHR) review and abstraction; 6) data input; 7) data analysis; and 8) other study-related tasks. The CRC needs to be comfortable working independently both in the hospital and in the field (home and other facility). Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license preferred, but not a requirement.

 

The CRC will support all activities associated with the execution of the research plan including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and organizing communication with participants, collaborators, and project staff. The CRC will use REDCap to assist with data collection and analysis. The position requires strong communication, organizational and analytical skills. The CRC's responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and literature searches. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Writing samples will be requested. Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.

 

The Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care (DGIM) holds an annual Research Day forum for CRCs to showcase their contributions via oral and poster presentations and promote professional development through a career panel discussion.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with data abstraction from a variety of sources including patient medical records, hospital and outside clinical information systems, and stakeholder transcripts.
  • Has to be comfortable in patient homes and other health care facilities working alone.
  • Perform patient identification per study criteria.
  • Administer patient-facing surveys and functional tests.
  • Documents patient visits and procedures.
  • Assists with interviewing study subjects.
  • Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • May utilize Excel to assist in data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis. 
  • May utilize REDCap to enable data collection efforts, including development of case report forms and descriptive data analysis. (In-house REDCap training is available.)
  • Assist with data analysis and system evaluation. 
  • Perform literature searches and assist with manuscript preparation.
  • Help with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, tables and graphs.
  • Assist with grant progress reports and IRB submissions as needed.
  • Conduct other administrative tasks (photocopying, scheduling, etc.) as needed.
  • Set up team/stakeholder meetings and take minutes

                Sedentary Work:   Lifting 10 lbs. maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

                x Light Work:            Lifting 20 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.  Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it involves sitting most of the times with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls, or when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

                Medium Work:       Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

                  Heavy Work:         Lifting 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

                  Very Heavy Work: Lifting objects in excess of 100 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 lbs. or more.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

                 1    Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners.

                 2    Follows safe practices required for the position.

                 3    Complies with appropriate BWH and MGB policies and procedures.

                 4    Fulfills any training required by BWH and/or MGB, as appropriate.

                 5    Brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate

                       hospital staff.

Qualifications 

         Bachelor's Degree and an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care.

         Prior healthcare experience preferred.

         Familiarity with electronic health records, REDCap, and MS Office preferred.

         Experience in any physiology-related field preferred.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required 

 

         Responsible for database management: create, input data, query, import/export, and restructure database, forms and queries as needed using Excel, REDCap, and other software to meet the study team's needs.

         Excellent interpersonal skills required for working with hospital leadership, patients, and study staff.

         Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect.

         Regard for patient privacy essential.

         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

         Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

         Ability to work independently with only general supervision.

         Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.

         Competency in Microsoft Office.
