Job description

Position Objective: Provide services as a Clinical Psychologist in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Under this delivery order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, implement, evaluate and interpret a board range of epidemiologic survey instruments; psychological test, questionnaires, and inventories; and, cognitive and neuro-psychological tests and evaluations. These materials include but are not limited to survey instruments on sensitive topics with considerable privacy concerns such as illicit drug use, experiences of discrimination, and intimate partner violence. Other materials consists of psychological inventories on disposition and feelings, psychiatric diagnostic screening questionnaires that may assess risk for clinical depression or risk for suicide, cognitive performance tests, and neuropsychological evaluations. 1

  • Use informed consenting procedures, using clinical judgment to monitor for signs of cognitive impairment and determine whether a participant can provide informed consent.

  • Perform psychometric and clinical evaluation to legitimately administer these materials . 2

  • Maintain test inventory and coordinate orders for new test equipment including raw forms, supplies, and tech equipment (iPads).

  • Conduct Mental health counseling: monitor for elevated scores on standardized depression inventories (CES- D PHQ-9), provide brief symptom management/psychoeducation/counseling and referral services, document elevated scores and referrals made to participants in an electronic progress note.

  • Monitor whether instruments’ modalities are functioning well, and recommends changes as necessary to improve data quality.

  • Coordinate with other researchers to validate results and concur on courses of action.

  • Generate recommendations for treatment referral when warranted using standards and clinical judgment based on test results and their application to individual study participants. 3

  • Recommend the most effective and efficient modality, for existing and new tests, with which to collect HANDLS participants bearing in mind the participant burden, their general level of comprehension, and their likely level of attention to the task.

  • Utilize structured instruments and assessments to perform diagnostic assessments.

  • Participate in research group meetings and in the decision-making process regarding patient inclusion in the studies, patient and parent diagnosis, and patient and family management throughout participation in the research protocol.

  • Develop and maintain complete and accurate research protocol records.

  • Work products and documents related to administering predictive and diagnostic assessment scales to study participants; participate in post-assessment evaluations to determine if additional diagnostic and medical testing is necessary. - Ad-Hoc

  • Work products and documents related to determining whether participant is capable of providing informed consent before examinations proceed; evaluate cognitive difficulties in study participants based on data collected. - Ad-Hoc

  • Work products and documents related to participating in weekly conference sessions; or-der and maintain psychometric test supplies; prepare statistical analysis of psychometric test results. -Ad-Hoc

  • Work products and documents related to consulting with staff regarding test results, unusual behavior; alert staff when participant exceeds diagnostic cut- offs for mental status and psychological well-being; use methods of test administration in rendering psychometric assessments of participants. -Ad-Hoc

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in clinical psychology or a related field.

  • Skilled in MS Office Suite.

  • Valid Maryland driver’s license with a good driving record.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
