ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works effectively with a multidisciplinary team (hospital wide) that includes: physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers and other allied health professionals.
  • Works effectively with an interdisciplinary team that includes, but not limited to: the behavioral health department, primary care clinic, intensive care/multi-service unit, OB/GYN (INPT/OPT) and emergency medicine services.
  • Evaluates/screens psychological, social, physiological, and behavioral signs and symptoms of distress. Identify any coexisting conditions (medical, psychiatric, environmental, etc.) that indicate the need for additional professional assessment and/or services. Determine the patient's level of care needs and be knowledgeable about making an appropriate referral.
  • Performs the behavioral health outpatient department intake process that includes completing intake documents,  identifying the patient’s presenting problem(s), and making a case presentation in the treatment team meeting for matching the appropriate provider with the identified patient. Provider should be knowledgeable about completing documents that include consent for treatment, patient’s rights and responsibilities, confidentiality agreements, and consent to release information forms.
  • Provider should also be able to provide a department overview to the patient by describing intake process, program services, and clinical operation hours. Provide an overview to the patient by describing hospital and other department operations and rules, patient obligations, and patient rights.
  • Collaborates information from significant secondary sources regarding patient’s development and psycho-social history.
  • Obtains a mental status examination, assess for risk to self and/or others, and be able to assess for a substance use disorder.
  • Provides a biopsychosocial-cultural assessment, behavioral and developmental assessment, a needs assessment, including but not limited to, intergenerational and immediate family difficulties, chronic health problems, behavioral/mental health problems, and environmental challenges.
  • Explains assessment results in an understandable manner, identify and rank problems, establish agreement on immediate and long-term goals, identify effective therapeutic interventions and establish agreement on the treatment process and the resources to be utilized.
  • Provides gender and culturally sensitive individual, group, and family counseling or psychotherapy.
  • Coordinates and integrate services, agencies, resources, and people together within a planned framework of action toward the achievement of established treatment goals.
  • Recognizes elements of a crisis, able to implement an immediate course of action, and appropriate treatment/intervention to address the crisis.
  • Provides service as part of the behavioral health outpatient department after hour on-call rotation schedule.
  • Provides a risk assessment (including risk for harm to self or others), determine appropriate recommendation including a safety plan and/or refer patient to an appropriate level of care which may include transferring to inpatient psychiatric
    facility.
  • Disseminates psycho-education to patients and their sources of support pertaining to the patient’s strengths and weaknesses. Provides hospital and community resources to patients and their sources of support.
  • Keeps abreast of new concepts and techniques in specialty areas and apply them as appropriate in direct services work.
  • Continues pursuit and development of job related individual interests and specialty areas for both personal growth and
    program and services enhancement.
  • Identifies the needs of a patient that cannot be met within FDIHB and be able to match the needs of the patient with appropriate resources. Provider should be able to communicate the rational for the referral to the patient and the patient’s sources of support.
  • Documents in the EHR system direct and in-direct patient care that was provided (within 24 hours of service). This includes but is not limited to: assessments and treatment plan, reports, progress notes, case management, consultations, and other
    patient-related information. Records should be relevant to the patient’s continuum of care.
  • Consults with other professionals in and out of FDIHB health care network regarding a patient’s comprehensive care and regarding a patient’s continuum of care. Provider should be cognizant of their professional skill limitations and seek
    consultation accordingly.
  • Consults with appropriate resources to ensure the provision of effective treatment services. Adheres to applicable laws, regulations and agency policies governing the disclosure of patient identifying information.
  • Able to communicate rational for consultation to the patient and/or the patient’s support system, if appropriate.
  • Provides individual or family focused behavioral therapy, multi-system therapy, and/or family dynamic therapies.
  • Provides psychoeducation in the areas of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention to children, adolescents, adults and to their family support system.
  • Works under the general supervision of the behavioral health outpatient director who outlines broad major objectives of the department.
  • Will work with full professional independence other than prescription of medication. Work is reviewed through rounding and periodic conference and reports relative to achievement of department goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • One (1) year of direct work experience as a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST.

Education:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD or PsyD) in Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Active, unrestricted Psychology License from any U.S State or Territory.
