Job Description:
Job Summary: The Clinical Pharmacist Supervisor - Critical Care ED provides direction and guidance to Pharmacists to ensure quality multi-disciplinary patient care including drug therapy management.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, training, competency development, performance feedback and termination.
- Monitors staff activity and productivity. Makes staff assignments to ensure coverage of all areas and functions as a clinical resource for the hospital staff.
- Monitors and evaluates compliance with performance standards for key department process. Assists in developing performance reports and analyzes patterns of variance and implements strategies for clinical improvement projects.
- Works collaboratively with medical ICU, surgical ICU, and ED teaching teams to optimize therapy and ensure safe and effective medication regimens for patients.
- Actively participates in emergency response teams including traumas, code blues, intubations, strokes, sepsis, STEMIs, and priority alerts.
- Performs drug utilization reviews, monitors for drug interactions, assists in in maintaining integrity of formulary, participates in antibiotic stewardship program, provides pharmacokinetic dosing and monitoring services to the medical staff and evaluates potential adverse drug events.
- Provides education for medical, nursing, pharmacy and other clinical staff as well as patients of JPS Health Network. Serves as a clinical preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
- Functions as a clinical resource for the hospital staff.
- Represents the department in interdepartmental/district meetings as required.
- Participates in the development of medication use management programs within JPS Health Network including clinical guidelines, disease management and drug use programs.
- Ensures completion and accuracy of required documentation and record keeping.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of accredited college of pharmacy.
- 1 year American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) accredited residency and 3 plus years of acute hospital experience working in patient care area of specialty that demonstrates direct patient care in medication management and participation in patient rounds with medical and hospital staff.
- Pharmacy license from Texas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for same.
- Specialty Board Certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or complete within 3 months of hire.
- Preceptor with State Board of Pharmacy or complete within 6 months of hire.
- 2 year American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) accredited residency in critical care or emergency medicine and 3 plus years of acute hospital experience working in patient care area of specialty that demonstrates direct patient care in medication management and participation in patient rounds with medical and hospital staff.
