A Brief Overview
Responsible for all clinical services supporting the inpatient and outpatient oncology and and infusion therapy practice settings.
What you will do
- Daily coordination of chemotherapy orders for oncology inpatient and outpatients accomplished by working directly with oncologists, nurse practitioners and nursing staff.
- Comprehensive support to all health care providers as related to the oncology and infusion patients and their pharmaceutical therapy. Provision of drug information and education as required.
- Assist in determination of treatment plan for oncology patients and order writing. Thorough clinical review of all written orders prior to Pharmacy Department processing.
- Ongoing monitoring of all oncology/infusion patients for appropriate response, adverse drug event monitoring and reporting. Direct patient counseling prior to and during pharmaceutical therapy phase of care.
- Training of pharmacy staff as their role pertains to area of specialty.
- Assist in clinical research trials related to oncology and infusion therapy.
- Attendance and contributions to assigned meeting and teams, such as Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Oncology Committee , Department/Division meetings as needed, etc.
- Manages assigned projects and tasks in a comprehensive and timely manner, with clear reporting of progress, obstacles and completion to the Director of Pharmacy.
- Independent research, introduction and implementation of new programs, protocols and performance improvement related to area of specialty.
- Works effectively with outpatient and inpatient managers to coordinate clinical and operational services, policies and procedures, etc. Contributes to the overall planning and success of the Clinical Specialty team.
- Competent interpretation and review of appropriateness of all medication and medication related orders by physicians including thorough check for allergies, interactions, therapeutic interchange, contraindications, dosing, etc.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Education Qualifications
- PhD Doctorate of Pharmacy Required
Experience Qualifications
- 1-3 years Minimum 2 years hospital pharmacy with clinical oncology experience. Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication, project management
- Pharmacy residency with strong oncology component
Licenses and Certifications
- License to dispense Pharmaceuticals in the State of New Jersey Upon Hire Required
