Description:
The academic detailing pharmacist functions at the highest level of clinical practice, taking a leading role in planning, developing, marketing, delivering, monitoring, and reporting of academic detailing initiatives. Specific initiative activities will facilitate adoption of guideline-concordant care strategies.
Duties:
  • Develops, reviews, and evaluates clinical guidelines for medications and identifies changes in standards of care, clinical guidelines and recommended best practices.
  • Develops, reviews, and evaluates retrospective drug criteria
  • Provides clinical consults on complex retrospective DUR cases and/or medication authorization requests
  • Suggests therapeutic alternatives to providers when sub-optimal therapies have been identified
  • Participates in the development and presentation of educational intervention programs
  • Prepares or reviews articles pertaining to clinical therapies and guidelines.
  • Conducts research and reviews of the literature on medication therapies when there is a high cost issue, quality of care, etc.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
  • Identify provider and patient resources to promote evidence-based patient care processes in the area of opioid prescribing
  • Develop engaging patient and provider materials to minimize implementation barriers and maximize patient-centered incorporation of best clinical evidence
  • Represent organization with a high degree of public visibility in a variety of clinical practice settings
  • Exercise creative initiative to collaborate effectively through direct and indirect interactions with interdisciplinary care teams to meet national and state-specific clinical performance measures
  • Conduct academic detailing visits to opioid prescribers in service to Oklahoma State Department of Health service initiatives
  • Develop and present reports providing comparative medical and/or pharmacy claims data with consideration of clinical and financial implication
  • Participate in preceptor activities for pharmacy interns and/or residents

Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD AND:
  • 12 months pharmacy experience

Certifications/ Licenses:
  • Licensed Pharmacist by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy or obtain licensure within 90 days of hire
  • Must possess or be able to obtain an Oklahoma Preceptor's license by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within one year of hire

Skills:
  • Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice, including laws, regulations, and standards of practice
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to engage and motivate healthcare providers and staff
  • Strong clinical knowledge base
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, work independently and adapt to a changing work environment
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient in using basic computer software and comfortable using new applications
  • Valid driver's license
  • Preferred: knowledge of graphic design program Adobe Creative Suite, SAS software
